More English-Speaking Doctors Are Coming To Niseko

NISEKO NEWS

Niseko is soon to become a training ground for foreign doctors.

The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, in an effort to better accommodate a post-Covid influx of foreign patients, has established a clinical training system to recruit foreign doctors and Hirafu’s Niseko International Clinic is to become a designated training hospital.

Foreign medical practitioners must have over three years of clinical experience to begin their in-Japan training, which last for up to two years and is supervised by a doctor already based in Japan.

The Niseko International Clinic, which opened in 2017, is already unique in the area as a general clinic that can provide English service.

Its current sole resident doctor is the founder, Director Kunitake Moroi, and he decided to apply to become a clinical training hospital so another doctor could be secured that can serve foreigners.

The clinic expects to have its first trainee at the end of this year.
