Niseko Town has released details of its planned 2% accommodation tax.

Guests of private lodgings, as well as hotels, will be subject to the new taxation but school trip groups and other school-related bookings will be exempt.

The tax will only apply to room charges, excluding add-ons like food, drink and amenity usage fees.

A draft ordinance with these details will be submitted to the town assembly on 6 June, with an open call for opinions from townspeople taking place from now till the 26th of this month.

Comments including one’s name, address and contact information should be submitted to the tax division in the town hall of Fujimi via email ([email protected]), mail or fax (0136-44-3500).

The town will respond at its discretion.

For inquiries on briefings for businesses, to be held from the 22nd of this month on, please contact the tax division at 0136-44-2121.

Although the tax is due to take place this fiscal year, the effective date is undecided.
