Hotel Cleaning Staff Wage Potentially Increasing To JPY2000 This Winter

The wages of hotel cleaning staff in Niseko may potentially increase to around JPY2000 in the 2023/24 winter season in Niseko, according to a report by Nikkei.

The competition for hiring staff in Niseko for the winter is intensifying as the number of international visitors recovers from the impact of COVID, while there remains a shortage of employees.

In May, one of the hotel operators in Niseko raised the wages of around 100 year-round employees, with an increase rate of more than 17% and 25% for customer service staff.

As the hiring process for foreign staff starts in the summer, the operator plans to provide half of the rent burden as well as raise wages to around JPY2000 for the experienced cleaning staff.
