This is one of an increasing number of older style places that have been renovated to a high standard inside, essentially breathing new life into a basic old mountain chalet. It’s places like this that typify the original quirky architecture that gives Hirafu so much charm and character.
The open-plan kitchen, dining, living area is one of the nice features of the house that makes for a really social holiday experience. While mums or dads are cooking, kids can be playing cards on the dining table while others relax and talk in the lounge. Most of the rooms have views of Mt Yotei, with others overlooking the quaint snow-covered streets.
The furnishing and fittings throughout are modern, as is the open-plan design. The basement media room has a flat-screen TV, cable channels and DVD player, and the house comes with wireless high-speed internet, washer and dryer for convenience. Sugarpot has five bedrooms and can sleep 12 people, plus 2 extra guests at an extra charge. There are two twin/double rooms, one double-double or quad single, and two rooms with one single bunk, each sleeping two people. There are no en suites but there are three bathrooms in the chalet, so everyone will be well catered to.

Location
SETTING / ATMOSPHERE
Sugarpot is located on the upper border of Lower Hirafu Village – it’s almost the Middle Village. The streets here are quiet and buried in metres of powder snow, while shuttles make it super convenient.
LIFTS / TRANSPORT
The chalet is quite a walk from the lifts, but possible if you’re really keen for a walk. Most people will take a short stroll to a nearby free shuttle bus stop and wait a few minutes to be whisked to the lift of their choice.
RESTAURANTS / BARS
For the bigger kids, one night or several will no doubt be spent sipping cocktails at Gyu+ – the uber-cool Fridge Door Bar which is a snowball’s throw away. There’s also several great small restaurants nearby for a quiet meal or two.

Janet –
This is the second time we’ve stayed at Sugarpot and we loved it. We were a group of 9, but the house could easily sleep 12.
The house is very spacious, has a big kitchen and huge drying room for all your snow gear.
It’s also in a good location – about a ten minute walk up the hill to the family lift and very close to food trucks and small bars.
We booked through ministry of villas and Nila was a huge help. She made organising our holiday easy, convenient and stress free. She was always very informative, friendly and responded quickly to emails. Would highly recommend booking through powderlife / ministry of villas!
Ministry Villas –
Thank you so much for the lovely review. We look forward to looking after your family again next year!

Sugarpot is a beautiful property and was a great size for our group of 9 people, very spacious!
It is in a convenient Middle Hirafu location, close to everything by a short walk, the shuttle up to the Gondola is 2 minutes away, and the Onsen is basically across the road which was a big plus after a big day on the slopes.
Our only suggestion would be that the bins get emptied more often or to have spare bin liners available in the house, as with a big group, comes a lot of rubbish.
The process with Ministry of Villas for booking and Pre-arrival was smooth and easy, and they very promptly responded to any enquiries.
We would definitely recommend both this property and Ministry of Villas, and would definitely stay again with Ministry of Villas help
