A red carpet rolled out in front of a choreographed Christmas tree lighting and fireworks show launched one of the most spectacular hotel opening ceremonies seen in Niseko to date.

Accompanied by a rocking Christmas soundtrack, the gala opening of Setsu Niseko set the scene for Niseko’s return to life this winter.

Simon Cheong – Founder and Chairman of Setsu’s developer SC Global – told the gathering of Niseko community, stakeholders and investors of the difficulties carrying out the international project during the pandemic, and that he hoped Setsu would play a part in the prosperity of Niseko.

“When the pandemic first struck, we had a choice whether to proceed with the project, or postpone it,” Mr Cheong said.

We chose to proceed because we believe in the long-term future of Niseko as one of Asia’s leading luxury hospitality destinations

“This journey has not been an easy one – managing the construction of a project of this scale remotely through a pandemic has been challenging.

“It is my fervent hope that Setsu Niseko will play a small part in the prosperity of Niseko and Kutchan prefecture, and hopefully it will also create more jobs for Hokkaido.

“We wanted to make a difference, not just in terms of architecture and design, but in terms of scale.

“Niseko deserves larger developments like Setsu Niseko that can enhance the offering of services and facilities to all our overseas visitors – recreating the romance and luxury of the classic apres-ski experience.”

Setsu Niseko is the largest hotel-condominium built in Niseko to date.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Singapore’s Ambassador to Japan Peter Tan said the grand opening of Setsu Niseko is perfect in timing with the Japan borders opening from October 2022.

“Setsu Niseko was one of the most significant single investments by a Singaporean company in the Hokkaido region,” Mr Tan said.

Following the outdoor ceremony, the party moved inside to the hotel’s headline restaurant méli mélo -Yuki No Koe-, where the hotel’s five food-and-beverage outlets collaborated to offer a showcase of local food and drink for guests.

Setsu Niseko is now open for apartment sales and holiday booking this winter.
