Niseko Gravel, the first gravel fun ride event in the Niseko area, will take place this year on 23 and 24 September with three separate rides.

Hokkaido Events and Panaracer, which first sponsored Niseko Gravel in 2022, have agreed to continue their support for this year.

The three rides are varying distances – 50km, 80km and 120km – which have gravel (unpaved road) portions of 40%, 50% and 55%, respectively.

The elevation gain, or total number of metres one climbs in a ride, also rises from 800m for the short ride to 2500m for the 120km event.

Niseko Gravel was first held as a test event in October 2020 with five participants, reflecting the then-budding popularity of gravel road bikes, which can be used in all road conditions, in Japan.

The Niseko Gravel event in September 2022 drew over 300 participants enjoying the nature of the Niseko area.

This year’s event will be larger still, with the main venue being the Niseko Annupuri International Ski Area.

The rides, all on Sunday 24 September, will launch from there, and the venue itself will feature food trucks, booths and events by cycling-related companies.

The registration period for Niseko Gravel is open till Friday 8 September at 6pm.
