A three night series of classical concerts and banquet feasts are coming to Niseko this winter.

The events, dubbed “Niseko Classical Night” will be held at the Hilton Niseko Village’s 13-story “Hokkaido” atrium and banquet hall and feature the Hungarian-born sibling duo of violinist Sándor Jávorkai and cellist Adam Jávorkai who together were named Artist of the Year by Jeunesse and Bank Austria in 2009, among other awards.

Each evening from 8 to 10 February will begin at 6:30pm with welcome drinks and a half hour welcome performance ahead of the Jávorkai brothers beginning at 7:00pm and then continuing through the opening of the banquet.

Niseko Classical Night is produced by the Tokyo-based Koransha, which has specialised in classical and ballet concerts – often paired with other activities like dinners or special performances – since 1980.

Koransha’s Shoko Kasuga who is with the Tours & Projects division and is in charge of Niseko Classical Night said the event was planned in response to a lack of entertainment options during the evenings in Niseko.

Guests visiting Niseko can enjoy daytime skiing, but many feel there is little entertainment to make the most of their time after sunset.

The three nights will each have their own musical theme – Classical Music Night, Film Music Night and Roma Music Night – and will see the musicians, who are known for their playfulness and humour, occasionally soliciting audience participation like clapping and exchanging jokes and banter.

The banquet buffet will include a number of hot and cold selections, several desserts, a wide variety of included alcoholic beverages and soft drinks as well as a “Ramen Festival” with three different ramens from famous Hokkaido restaurants.

The international aspect of Niseko, said Kasuga san, is one of the reasons Koransha decided to produce this concert series, its first in the area.

Classical music is entertainment that does not require language.

Tickets to each of the events is JPY35,000 ($236), available to purchase via Paypal on the Niseko Classical Night website or through a room charge, including for guests staying at other hotels that are providing access to the concert as a concierge service.

Same-day tickets can also be purchased from the venue’s box office with a credit card or cash, pending availability. Updates are available on Niseko Classical Night’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

Kasuga san said that if Niseko Classical Night is successful, they would like to do more events in the area, including green season outdoor concerts.
