Japan Airlines (JAL) and All Nippon Airways (ANA) are expanding their international routes to Japan and domestic flights to Hokkaido for fiscal year 2024.

To meet the growing demand for Hokkaido green season tourism, JAL announced on 29 January that it is increasing its domestic round trip flights from Tokyo Haneda to Sapporo New Chitose airports from 16 to 17 per day from 31 March and Osaka Itami to Sapporo New Chitose flights from four to five per day from 1 June.

JAL will also begin daily operation on the first non-stop flight between Japan and the Middle East when it launches its Haneda-Doha route on 31 March, reflecting the recent increase of inbound travellers from that part of the world.

JAL’s international winter 2024 schedule is soon to be released separately.

ANA, which released its entire FY2024 schedule on 23 January, is adding flights on its European routes during the summer between Tokyo Haneda, Munich and Paris, as well as resuming its Haneda-Vienna flights.

For the ANA 2024 winter schedule, the routes of Haneda-Milan, Haneda-Stockholm and Haneda-Istanbul will be introduced.

ANA also announced it will increase flights on the Haneda-Beijing and Haneda-Shanghai routes, which have remained reduced compared to the years shortly before Covid due to decreased tourism from China, although the airline didn’t specify when this would take place or what the increase will be.

AirJapan, a subsidiary of the ANA Group, will increase its Narita-Bangkok route to daily service from the end of April.

These route addition and service increase announcements come shortly after Japan saw a record number of inbound visitors for the month of December in 2023.
