Apex’s Property’s latest Niseko development, Hanacreek, is commencing construction on Phase I of development.

An onsen (Japanese hot spring)-connected land subdivision, Hanacreek Phase I sits on 16ha adjacent to an earlier Apex Property development, Hanaridge, which is also an onsen housing estate.

17 land plots are available, of which six are currently under contract and 11 for sale.

Under Phase I, Onsen Houses, Onsen Townhouses and Onsen Apartments will also be available, all having private stone onsens, wood burning fireplaces, designer lighting & furniture, among other features.

The Clubhouse residence building will consist of wellness facilities, sporting facilities such as a 12m swimming pool, gym and pickleball courts as well as a rooftop vegetable garden and public-access restaurants, cafe and deli.

Finally, there will be a Hotel Condo that will have 30 studio and 1-bedroom apartments – the latter all having private onsens – which will have a public-access Japanese fine dining restaurant with rooftop dining available.

Sylvia Tang, CEO and Co-Founder of Apex Property, said the impetus to develop onsen-connected properties began when development started on the nearby Park Hyatt Hanazono Niseko and the concurrent updating of the Hanazono ski base infrastructure.

We saw more people wanting houses with a private onsen and to be surrounded by natural elements such as pine trees, creeks and peaceful scenery.

Hanacreek is in a silver birch forest along a brook, and all its utilities are all to be housed underground.

The designs will be similar to the adjacent Hanaridge properties, with some new additions like traditional Japanese zen rock gardens and infrared saunas and cold water bath tubs as part of the onsen installations.

Hanacreek was announced in 2020 shortly before Covid necessitated that the project be paused, but Tang says the time was put to good use.

The pandemic gave us more time to reflect and think about the project and how we can make it better.

With the extra time, said Tang, ideas about how to connect the greater Hanazono community were explored, including creating nature/biking trails and even proposing to the Kutchan council having a heated foot path with street lamps along the road, connecting to the ski base.

Like Hanaridge, Riccardo Tossani Architecture (RTA) is the master planner for the development.

While the land plots are already for sale, the Onsen Houses and Onsen Townhouses will go on sale in late December of this year, and Onsen Apartment sales launching in December 2024.

Phase II and III will see development on the other side of the creek Phase I is being built along.

When Phase III is complete, Hanacreek will consist of 80 subdivided land plots spread over 168,000sqm (50,820 tsubo) of land.
