Kutchan To Hold Public Meetings On Development Guidelines

NISEKO NEWS

Kutchan Town will hold four briefings from 29 May to 1 June to discuss creating new rules for environmentally-conscious development.

The meetings are open to residents and businesses in the immediate resort and surrounding communities and are being held in various in-resort and resort-adjacent locations.

The initial draft of the new regulations limits the floor area of new accommodations and related facilities to 10,000sqm (3,025 tsubo) and stipulates that such developments should be designed to blend in with the surrounding natural landscape.

The draft also calls for firmer regulations to prevent overdevelopment in particular areas, like a prohibition on new lodging in the neighbourhoods of Takasago and Hirafu.

Registration is not required for concerned citizens and business representatives to attend.

Remote participants need to send an email ahead of time to the Town Planning and New Frontier Division at [email protected] with the desired date as well as their name and contact information.

The meetings are:

29 May 6pm – Mountain Center at Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu Ski Resort
30 May 2pm – Kutchan Town Hall
31 May 2pm – Town General Gymnasium
1 June 6pm – Kutchan Town Hall
