American Airlines is launching direct service between New York City and Tokyo Haneda International Airport on 28 June.

This will make American Airlines the only U.S. carrier to offer nonstop service between New York and Tokyo, a move planned in tandem with joint business partner Japan Airlines (JAL) and resulting in three daily direct routes between New York (via John F. Kennedy International Airport) and Tokyo.

The New York – Tokyo service will be the 12th connection operated by the two airlines between eight U.S. cities and Tokyo Haneda, Narita and Osaka’s Kansai International Airports, most with multiple flights per day.

The American Airlines New York – Tokyo route comes in addition to a previous expansion announcement of international routes by both JAL and All Nippon Airways (ANA) as well as increased domestic flights from various airports to Sapporo’s New Chitose Airport.
