The Rusutsu Chalets development is housed in a really unique spot, right inside the Izumigawa golf course that sits just down the road from the Rusutsu Resort towers and ski lifts. Excellent for golf in the summer, and a tranquil forest hideaway in winter.
There are two Altair chalets side by side in the development, and each offers four bedrooms across two expansive storeys: living spaces and one master bedroom are downstairs, while upstairs is occupied by residential rooms and a quiet reading nook on the landing. The wood and rough-hew stone exteriors bring a rustic ski lodge vibes to an otherwise contemporary design. There are interesting and artistic light fixtures, imported furniture pieces and artworks that bring colour and life to every room. Altair is warm, light and modern, with plenty of plush rugs, exposed wooden beams and wooden flooring making each space feel warm and welcoming. Underfloor heating and double-glaze windows throughout make sure you stay toasty warm.
Besides the fun stuff (stunning outdoor Jacuzzi hot tub, outdoor terrace with fire pit) Altair works as hard as it plays. Utility-wise, you’ll enjoy a full-feature kitchen with breakfast bar, separate dining area, dryroom with laundry facilities, and an undercover garage with dryroom entrance. Each bedroom is a spacious and richly appointed affair with en-suite bathrooms for each guest. Best of all every room feels generously spacious, in a way you won’t see in the middle of Hirafu Village: there’s tons of space for every member of your group to get comfortable. Floor-to-ceiling windows abound to let in plenty of natural light and views of snow-covered trees and slopes. Perfect!

The first bedroom is the master suite, located on the ground floor and entered from the living area. The room sleeps two guests in a double bed, and has its own TV and seating area as well as expansive windows on two sides of the room. The en-suite bathroom has a bath and shower.

Located on the upper floor, the second bedroom also sleeps two guests in a double bed, and has its own small seating nook. Windows look out in two directions and let in plenty of natural light, and the en suite bathroom has its own shower and bath.

Rusutsu Chalet Altair
Location
SETTING / ATMOSPHERE
Rusutsu Chalets Altair are located on blocks 8 and 9 of the Rusutsu Chalets development, housed inside Rusutsu Resort’s Izumikawa golf course. It’s a great location for golfers in the summer, and also a very quick drive to Rusutsu Resort’s lifts in winter. Winter transforms the golf tees into beautiful snowy fields and forests, giving you plenty of chances to soak in the scenery. You can catch glimpses of Rusutsu’s Mt Shiribetsu lit up in the distance. It is a quiet, secluded neighbourhood just far enough from the busy highway.
LIFTS / TRANSPORT
Rusutsu’s West Mountain lifts are a quick 3-minute drive from the property, and property management provides a car during your stay to help you get around. This is where you’ll find the hub of Rusutsu: the resort towers, convenience store, and a few local restaurants. Or, keep going to East Mountain for a less popular access direct to East Mountain. If you need shops and civilisation, Kutchan is a 30-minute drive north, via Kyogoku or Makkari villages. Or drive south for beautiful Lake Toya and the seaside.
RESTAURANTS / BARS
Rusutsu is quiet in terms of dining. You can find pricey restaurants within the Rustusu Resort towers, and two or three independent restaurants outside at the resort hub – not a lot of options for the number of guests, so each of them very busy throughout the winter season. Rusutsu Village and Kimobetsu Village are the nearest non-resort villages, and each offers two or three small local eateries: much better priced and less packed as few staying in Rusutsu make the drive out.
