Blue Heron sits just east of the Rusutsu Resort complex, on the border of the Izumikawa golf course. The villa, completed in 2022 and surrounded by natural woodland, is a comfy modern Japanese house with plenty of amenities. Hhardwood floors, exposed beams and wood pillars add warm highlights throughout. Splashes of colour, texture and subtle decorations also add a classy, understated feel that will have you feeling right at home.
Three all-ensuite bedrooms occupy most of the ground floor, while an expansive living/dining/kitchen area and master bedroom makes up the upstairs. Blue Heron brightens up dark winter days by letting in plenty of natural light – skylights, plenty of windows and vaulted ceilings on the second floor (with balcony and terrace access) brighten up the space considerably. Blue Heron equips you with all you need for a longer stay with a full-feature kitchen with appliances and utensils. An expansive dining area, as well as two lounges to help your group either come together or do their own thing, depending on the vibe.
At a 40-minute drive from Niseko, lesser-known Rusutsu benefits from all the same weather patterns with a fraction of the crowds. If you don’t mind the quiet at night, Rusutsu’s slopes will be a welcome break from the lines and crowds of Hirafu.

Location
SETTING / ATMOSPHERE
Blue Heron is located in the Heron Estate, a new development overlooking Rusutsu’s Izumikawa Golf Course and a 5-minute drive from Rusutsu Ski Resort. You’ll find yourself in a quiet and secluded woodland surrounded by natural pine and birch trees – a perfect place for a secluded mountain getaway.
LIFTS / TRANSPORT
Helpfully, property management will pick you up from the nearest train station or bus stop on your arrival, and a vehicle is included with your stay to help you get around. Drive 5 minutes to get to Rusutsu Resort’s main hotel hub and ski lifts at West Mountain, or keep going for 10 minutes to the East Mountain parking lot.
RESTAURANTS / BARS
Rusutsu is much quieter than Niseko’s villages in terms of nightlife. There are several cozy bars/restaurants near the Rusutsu Resort towers, as well as a 7-11 convenience store. Both Kimobetsu and Rusutsu villages are an 8-minute drive from Blue Heron, giving you a couple more restaurant options and a selection of grocery stores.

Nestled near Rusutsu ski resort, Blue Heron is a modern and adorable chalet, perfect for a stay with a small group. I recommend renting a car for added convenience in exploring the Rusutsu area, making it easier to reach nearby restaurants or shops. Despite being just a 5-minute drive from Rusutsu ski resort, having a car enhances flexibility during your stay.

Light and airy, Blue Heron is a modern family-friendly villa. Two seperate living areas makes it perfect for entertaining kids. I recommend renting a vehicle (4×4) as it’s tucked away in the forest.
