Completed in 2022, this two-storey chalet lives up to the name with a minimalist, sleek modern design both inside and out. However, Zen is anything but minimal with the features it manages to pack in.

The undercover garage connects to the lodge via the dry room so you can gear up and down with ease each day. Downstairs you’ll find guest bedrooms, a media room and Japanese-style soaking tub, complete with communal changing area. Upstairs you’ll find three more bedrooms: two larger master suites with en-suite bathrooms. Between them is a bunk room with its own TV and play space – a perfect place for kids to enjoy themselves within earshot of parents. Near that is the expansive open-plan living area with vaulted ceilings. Sofas are gracefully arranged to take in both the fireplace, and views of Mt Yotei and surrounding forests. There is a full-size kitchen with walk-in pantry and a breakfast bar, as well as a feature round dining table. There is also a nook lounge seating area that can be separated from the rest of the living room.

Zen has been cleverly designed to let people to come together or drift apart – with plenty of clever nooks and spaces for everyone. Management provides a car for your stay, so shopping, skiing and sightseeing is all a breeze from this home base. As Higashiyama lies in the middle of Niseko’s ski resorts, each slope and village is an easy drive away.

Zen
Location

SETTING / ATMOSPHERE

Zen is located in Higashiyama, just a five-minute walk from the famous Takahashi Milk Kobo ice creamery. The chalet itself is nestled among woodlands at the end of a cul-de-sac, with several other chalets for neighbours. It is a quiet part of Niseko, with shuttle buses stopping nearby traveling toward the Hilton Hotel and Niseko Village Gondola, as well as to Niseko’s other resorts.

LIFTS / TRANSPORT

This chalet comes with a 4WD vehicle to use during your stay – a great way to get the really keen skiiers to the mountains first thing in the morning. It’s a 4-minute drive to a very generous parking area at the Niseko Village Gondola. Or for variety, you can be at the base of Annupuri in 9 minutes, or at the Hirafu Gondola in 12 – it’s a great central location to get to any slope, as well as to explore Niseko’s many sights.

RESTAURANTS / BARS

Niseko Takahashi Milk Kobo offers not only famous ice cream and dairy products, but also a pizza restaurant and several other eateries in its expansive grounds. It’s also a great place to visit for sightseeing photographs and souvenirs. Head up to Higashiyama’s traditional hub, the Hilton Hotel, for a range of dining and drinking options, both inside and outside in custom-built Japanese style shopping arcade.
