Yukikage means “snow shadow” – and evokes the shadows cast by Yukikage’s unique silhouette on to the snowy scenery around. Completed in 2017, Yukikage is one of the first luxury homes built strictly to order in the exclusive Elevations Estate – a gated community just minutes away from the Hirafu Gondola.
Yukikage’s design has won plenty of awards and writeups in the media (you can read ours here), and it’s easy to see why – stunning shapes and materials abound, with the whole 3-storey L-shaped structure arranged to capture stunning Yotei views from the floor-to-ceiling windows on every floor of the house. Designer light fixtures, imported furniture, artworks and interiors – everything comes together to transport you into a truly cutting-edge designer wonderland. Yukikage isn’t all just for looking, though – there is plenty of comfort and lavish living to be enjoyed. Start with the undercover garage, dryroom, and sauna downstairs. Work your way up the thoughtfully lit winding staircase to the second (residential) floor with four spacious bedrooms, two of them gorgeous en-suites with epic views, and a media room. Each bedroom is artfully decorated and eminently instagram-friendly.
The third and top floor is home to just one room, the expansive open-plan living, dining and kitchen room. The eyecatching heart of the space is the the luxuriously sprawling low-profile sofa and armchairs, placed to take in both the snowy views outside and the ethanol fireplace. Connected by the staircase landing and shared toilet, next you find the kitchen, brimming with imported appliances and a very generous dining table that doubles as a breakfast bar – perfect for sitting back and enjoying the chef at work. Beyond that is another feature dining table with seating for ten. All is surrounded by an accessible balcony terrace that’s also home to two ethanol fireplaces. SETTING / ATMOSPHERE
The Elevations Estate is an exclusive gated community, nestled in the forests just below the Hirafu Gondola. At Yukikage you will be surrounded exclusively by other stunning luxury villas, with snowy scenery and a gentle incline meaning protected views of Mt. Yotei in the distance and forests all around. The main road out of the estate leads into a small village enclave of East Hirafu, with Niseko Adventure Center (NAC) being the main shuttle stop and landmark.
LIFTS / TRANSPORT
The Hirafu Gondola is a 4-minute drive from Yukikage’s doorstep, with property management helpfully providing a morning ski shuttle to get you to the slopes. Free village shuttles can take you to central Hirafu, further out to East Hirafu or to Hanazono ski slopes, the nearest shuttle stop is 5 minutes’ walk down the road at NAC. If you need to stock up on groceries, Kutchan Town offers plenty of choice and is a 15-minute drive away.
RESTAURANTS / BARS
As an older neighbourhood, this part of East Hirafu boasts walking distance to a few choice eateries, as well as the Lawson convenience store. Ren Izakaya and the NAC cafe are the closest at about 5 minutes’ walk, while 10 minutes further East you will find Tsubara Tsubara soup curry, Graubunden snadwiches and a few other local staples. For drinks, best to head in to central Hirafu and try the various hotel and street bars on the main street.
