Tahoe Lodge could be straight out of the Sierra Nevada – albeit with metres of fluffy dry “Japow” outside. Step out the front door of Tahoe Lodge on an average Niseko winter morning and it will be clear you’re not near Kansas anymore! Apart from its northeast Asian location, Tahoe Lodge is modelled on modern North American ski chalets, with plenty of Japanese cultural design influence to remind you where you are.

At the quieter end of town, Tahoe Lodge lets you enjoy the snow at your own pace. Raw timber and stone give Tahoe Lodge an authentic alpine feel, with an obvious contrast between the lighter stained woods of the US and the darker tones typical of Japanese architecture. Noticeably, the exterior is a light almond brown reminiscent of American redwoods, meanwhile inside all the main feature beams and ceilings are a dark brown or almost zen-like black.
The stone Japanese bath is a design highlight of the house, and with huge picture windows wrapping around the room, is an amazing place to immerse yourself in the warmth of a traditional Japanese “ofuro” bath, while soaking in the surrounding powdery snowscape. Another prominent Japanese feature of Tahoe Lodge is the tatami room – a woven straw “tatami” mat floor room for relaxing, playing or sleeping on traditional futon mattresses.
Enough about the aesthetics – what about the setup? With 3 bedrooms, two bathrooms, two spacious living areas separate from a spacious kitchen dining room, this place is seriously set up for a family or group of friends to have the ultimate East-meets-West Niseko powder holiday – both inside and out. A fully equipped kitchen and ample counter space will let you cater to the whole group in the privacy of your lodge. Or take advantage of the village shuttles running during night skiing season to get in to town and enjoy the nightlife in central Hirafu.

SETTING / ATMOSPHERE
Tahoe Lodge is located in the centre of the quaint Izumikyo 2 village of Hirafu. It’s slightly removed from the main village, but just 5 minutes by car, taxi or shuttle bus. There are no bars down here so you can be assured peace and quiet.
LIFTS / TRANSPORT
The free Hirafu Village shuttle runs here so it’s really not much less convenient than being in the main village. The lifts are too far to walk in ski boots, but just jump on the free shuttle and you can be up at the lifts quicker than a sumo wrestler can eat a bowl of ramen :)
RESTAURANTS / BARS
While there are a few small restaurants and a hamburger joint within walking distance, most of the night & restaurant life of Hirafu will be a shuttle/taxi ride away. Take advantage of the later-running village shuttles during night skiing season.
