The two Shakuzen chalets – Mori and Kawa – are set side by side amidst serene birch trees and nearby a mountain stream – the setting feels like something straight out of a Hokkaido fairy tale. Though it’s easy to get your Zen on in this tranquil setting, the locale is also ideal for die hard powder hounds, with the stunning designer chalets ideally nestled in the halfway point between Niseko Village and Annupuri ski resorts.

Mori and Kawa are the twin chalets that make up Shakuzen. The chalets’ classic alpine aesthetics are peppered with subtle Japanese influences and touches of Scandinavian elegance. A beautiful touch are the picture windows used throughout. Looking out to the pristine Hokkaido landscape, these work as constantly evolving wall art.
The two chalets are mirror images of each other. Each one spans two floors and is just over 200 square metres in size. The ground floor houses two bedrooms, including a bunk room with a cosy media nook for the kids. On the upper floor, you’ll find a spacious living and dining room flanked by the master bedroom.
The Shakuzen chalets have been designed for ultimate slope side comfort. Each chalet features a well-designed ski room as well as full laundry facilities for convenience. The bunk room is the ideal retreat for kids while the master bedroom deserves a special mentions thanks to cathedral windows providing snow-covered views without even getting out of bed. In the living room, the piece du resistance is the stunning designer fireplace dominating the room.

SETTING / ATMOSPHERE
The Shakuzen chalets are located in the peaceful district of Soga, about halfway between the Niseko Village and Annupuri ski resorts. This is a serene locale where you’ll be surrounded by pristine Hokkaido woodlands yet only a short drive from the slopes.
LIFTS / TRANSPORT
You’re in luck – both the Niseko Village and Annupuri ski lifts are just a quick five-minute drive from the chalets. For even more options, it takes less than 10 minutes to reach the Moiwa ski resort, while Grand Hirafu is just under 15 minutes away.
RESTAURANTS / BARS
Much of the properties’ charm lies in their secluded locale, so you’re not exactly in the heart of the restaurant district. You will, however, find plenty of dining options over in Niseko Village which is just minutes away by car. The iconic Milk Kobo famous for its ice cream is also just five minutes away.

Sara –
These are really comfortable chalets and have ample space (actually quite large). There are two chalets but you can rent just the one or if travelling with a larger group take the two creating a 6 bedroom option.

The concierge was very helpful from booking to our actual stay. Shakuzen is about 10 mins away to the center, so be sure to arrange for a car rental or taxi service prior to your stay. The amenities in the house were complete and made us feel at home. There’s a guidebook provided in English that helps us navigate through the house. We had a great vacation and wish we stayed longer!
