According to the owners, Ro-an (meaning “Hearth retreat”) was designed with multi-generational getaways in mind. The builders imported top quality natural materials like western red cedar to Douglas firs. These elegant wood textures bring a classic ski lodge feel to this modern chalet.
Living is meant to be communal at Ro-An, with an L-shape open plan living area showcasing views of either the forest behind, or Mt Yotei ahead. There is a dining suite at one end of the L, a kitchen with island counter and breakfast bar at the other, and the living room suite in between. The sofa suite centers around a feature stone wall with gas fireplace below, and flat-screen TV above: simply switch on and enjoy whichever you choose. But if you can’t agree on what to watch, there’s a whole separate media room downstairs! For a cultural experience, the large Japanese-style bathtub downstairs is large enough to share, with several seated showers in true onsen style.
The chalet comprises two storeys. Bedrooms, laundry, dry room and media room are downstairs, while two master suites and open-plan living area upstairs. Undercover parking is a rare blessing in Niseko, where heavy snowfall is always a headache to deal with first thing in the morning. Ro-An is a rare standout that offers space for two cars. The undercover garage leads straight in to a dedicated ski storage / dry room. Ro-An is an expansive, well-laid-out holiday home to enjoy with nine of your nearest and dearest.

The first of two bedrooms located on the top floor, this bedroom houses two guests in one king-size bed. There is a wall-length desk with seating for those times you need to sit down and concentrate, with graceful forest views visible through the windows behind. There is also a seating nook, and a walk-in wardrobe for storage. The en suite bathroom has its own bathtub, separate shower, washstands and a toilet.

Also located on the upper floor, the second bedroom near the first and houses two guests in either one king or two single beds. The room has its own desk study space, and expansive full-height windows showcasing stunning views of Mt. Yotei. The en suite bathroom has its own shower, bath and toilet.

BEDROOM 3
The third bedroom is located on the lower floor, and offers lovely village views through windows on two sides of the room. Four guests can sleep here in two bunk beds. There is a storage closet, and additional storage below the bunkbeds in slide-out drawers. Though it doesn’t have its own en suite bathroom, this bedroom is just down the hall from a shared toilet, and also from the feature Japanese-style bath with separate showers.

BEDROOM 4
Sat between the third and fifth bedroom, this room can house two guests in either one king or two single beds, according to your needs. The room also has bedside tables, a desk, a wardrobe for storage, an expansive panorama window showcasing village views, and an en suite bathroom with shower, washstand and toilet.

Located next door to the fourth, and near the downstairs media room, the fifth bedroom houses two guests in either one king or two single beds. The room also has a desk, bedside tables, a wardrobe for storage, and large windows showcasing views of the village beyond. Though not en-suite, the shared feature bathroom with Japanese style hot soaking tub is just down the hall (as is a separate toilet).

Location
SETTING / ATMOSPHERE
Ro-An is located in Izumikyo, on the east side of Hirafu (Niseko’s main ski village). Ro-An has been built on a stunning block of land just near the entrance of the Izumikyo estate, where the mountains behind create a narrow bottleneck. Behind Ro-An are gorgeous forests and a natural mountain stream, while in front are stunning views of Mt. Yotei. Secluded yet convenient!
LIFTS / TRANSPORT
Izumikyo’s shuttle stop is a 3-minute walk, and the free village shuttle will take you to Grand Hirafu’s ski slopes and locations around lively Hirafu village (the lifts themselves are just 1.4km away). With property management offering shuttles for your arrival and departure, you could comfortably get by without a car – but to free you up to explore Niseko and avoid the crowds, a car is always handy.
RESTAURANTS / BARS
Ro-An’s location gives you great access to Izmikyo’s restaurants, with popular year-round eateries Tsubara Tsubara (soup curry) and Graubunden (sandwiches) both 3 minutes away. Bistro Re Arbor is around the corner and serves an excellent fusion of Japanese-Italian cuisine. Head to Midtown at the lower end of Izumikyo to reach the 7-eleven convenience store, and Soba Ichimura for one of Niseko’s most sought after soba lunches.
