Renowned architect Makoto Nakayama (of Zaborin and Sansui Niseko) won an Honorable Mention for this chalet at the International Design Awards in 2021, so when you stay at Meikeikyo Hanazono you enjoy not only secluded luxury, but also surround yourself with award-winning design. Meikeikyo takes you on a journey – from the deeply understated, almost hermit-like street frontage and through the Japanese entrance, you enter wide, open-plan, multi-level living space with elegant designer staircases and furniture throughout. All of it is built around a central courtyard with rock garden that brings a hint of grace, light and nature in to every room.
But as shy and retiring as the streetfront looks, most of the back of Meikeikyo is floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking snow-covered forests, with Mt. Yotei on full display in the distance. Enjoy this scenery by the ethanol fireplace in the expansive lounge suite, or from the terrace outside. Not only is Meikeikyo stunning to look at, it is also super comfortable and has everything a large group needs for a longer stay. There is a full-feature kitchen and laundry, an expansive dining table with seating for 14, and a media room with cinema screen and massive reclining sofa armchairs. For the powder lovers, a ski room with benches provides seamless storage for before and after your time on the slopes.
You can enjoy Japanese elements at Meikeikyo as well – with a tatami room perfect for relaxation and meditation (where 2 additional guests can sleep as well), and a Japanese-style bath accessible to all. Undercover garage parking is built into the property, and the chalet comes with a vehicle in winter. Or, should you prefer to be driven, management offers a ski lift shuttle service, and even a weekly trip to the grocery stores in town for your convenience.

Location
SETTING / ATMOSPHERE
Meikeikyo Hanazono is located alongside Niseko Hanazono’s golf course, a 15-minute walk or 3-minute drive from the lifts at Niseko Hanazono Resort – neighbouring resort to Hirafu. Surrounded by a few select chalets and forests nearby, Meikeikyo is in a quiet and exclusive neighbourhood and boasts uninterrupted views of mt. Yotei.
LIFTS / TRANSPORT
Niseko Hanazono’s lifts are a 3-minute drive from the property, or a 15-minute walk. The property is 10 minutes’ drive from Kutchan Station, the main transport hub in the area – and a 20-minute drive to Hirafu’s Welcome Center, where many airport transfer services arrive. The property’s management offers pick-up services on arrival, and also runs a ski shuttle service for Meikeikyo Hanazono guests.
RESTAURANTS / BARS
The part of Niseko close to Hanazono’s ski slopes doesn’t offer much in the way of restaurant options, but the range is growing each year. Head down to the Park Hyatt Niseko (at Hanazono’s base) for restaurant and bar options, or drive 10 minutes into Kutchan Town for a wider selection of restaurants to cater to all tastes and budgets, as well as plenty of groceries, pharmacies and shops.

Dwiari A –
The zen garden courtyard stands out as a masterpiece at the heart of the property. Meikeikyo Hanazono, a two-level chalet with a distinctive design, offers a unique and artistic experience. The addition of a media room not only enhances comfort but also provides an inviting space for quality family time beyond skiing. Moreover, I believe they offer some children’s games, ensuring that the younger ones can also thoroughly enjoy their time at the chalet.
Alastair –
Meikeikyo Hanazono is incredible! The zen garden courtyard is a piece of art in the heart of the property, its beauty in winter can not be overstated. The bedrooms are all gorgeous, the media room is next level, kitchen and living areas are very, very comfortable.
