Higuma is Niseko’s ultimate alpine chalet offering exclusive accommodation for families or large groups.
Higuma is one of Niseko’s most luxurious properties, located in one of Hirafu’s exclusive residential areas. The alpine chalet is fully self-contained, and is perfect for larger families or groups, sleeping up to 10 people very comfortably.
The property was designed and built in 2005, and the name ‘Higuma’ comes from the Higuma bear, a species of brown bear that is only found in Hokkaido and is the largest land mammal in Japan. Their natural habitat is similar to the stunning silver birch forests that surround the home.
The high vaulted ceilings and large cathedral windows give the home an open and spacious feeling, and offer panoramic views of the snowy National Park and surrounding mountains. The centrepiece of the open-plan living area is the stone fireplace, which creates a cosy atmosphere, perfect on those cold Niseko nights when you prefer to stay snuggled up at home.
For at-home entertainment there’s a games room which is kitted out with a plasma TV that’s hooked up to cable so you can access English-language channels, as as well as a DVD and CD player, as well as a library of DVDs, CDs and books, plus broadband internet access.
No ski chalet would be complete without a place to store your gear when you come off the mountain and Higuma is no different. It comes with a custome designed drying and storage room so your boots will be toasty warm and ready to go when you head out the next morning. Add to that full laundry facilities and a fully-equipped kitchen and you’ve got yourself everything you need in the ultimate mountain retreat.
Higuma has five bedrooms that sleep up to 10 adults and features a master bedroom with queen-size bed, and four rooms with split king beds. The master bedroom has an ensuite, and there are two additional bathrooms shared between the other four bedrooms, as well as an additional guest toilet.
The kitchen is fully-equipped with Western appliances including an oven, microwave, stovetop and dishwasher. The laundry has both a washing machine and a dryer.
Higuma can be found tucked away in the exclusive residential area of Izumikyo 1, on the outskirts of Hirafu’s main village. This is an ideal location because it’s peaceful and quiet, yet only a stone’s throw from all the action.
It’s about a 15-minute walk to the closest lift, which is the Hirafu Gondola, and about the same distance to the Ace Family Chair, but doing that in ski boots might be a bit of an effort so why not jump on the free village shuttle which stops right nearby and it’ll have you on the slopes in no time!
Being fully self-contained you can easily stay in at night and cook for yourself, but if you’re not much of a whizz in the kitchen there is also in-house catering available on request so you can stay in and enjoy a gourmet meal in the comfort of your own home! If going out is more your thing, there’s no shortage of fabulous restaurants around town so take a short stroll up to the main part of the village and take your pick. There are also a few restaurants located around the Izumikyo area if you don’t want to go too far from home.
