Hibari was once somebody’s dream family getaway, constructed for private use in the exclusive Escarpment estate in Lower Hirafu. Hibari is strikingly boxy on the outside, showing next to nothing to the road with its blocky, rectangular exterior. Step inside and warm, light wooden interiors light up every space. Escarpment’s secret gift to its inhabitants is the steep slope that Hibari sits on, that elevates Hibari above ground level. Floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the chalet send you right into the thick of the forest beyond, with glimpses of Mt Yotei visible here and there through the branches.

Hibari is a two-storey chalet. Downstairs is home to three bedrooms, one of them a bunk bedroom that was originally intended for the family’s children (though adults can fit comfortably in these beds, too!) Next door to the bunk bedroom and just by the entrance is a delightful media room nook complete with beanbags. Upstairs is home to an open-plan living, kitchen and dining area with access to a lovey outdoor deck. Living is centered around a gorgeous JOTUL fireplace, fed with real wood. This fireplace divides the room neatly in half with living room seating on one side, and the kitchen / dining area on the other.

Imagine sitting back on the sofa, listening to the crackling of the fire, and watching snow-covered trees sway in the winter breeze – a true getaway to nature, a quick drive from central Hirafu, Niseko’s bustling heart.

Hibari
Location

SETTING / ATMOSPHERE

Hibari sits in the Escarpment Estate. When you reach Lower Hirafu, you take a side road that descends below the village. The Escarpment is perched on a slanted slope, allowing the chalets and lodges here to have uninterrupted views of the surrounding forests and glimpses of Mt Yotei beyond. It is a very quiet, exclusive neighbourhood that needs car access to get to the slopes or the rest of Hirafu – perfect for those that want seclusion and privacy while still being in Hirafu.

LIFTS / TRANSPORT

You can reach Hirafu’s parking areas and slopes in a quick 3-minute drive, with Hanazono and Niseko Village both within a 15-minute drive. Free village shuttles service Lower Hirafu, so you will need to walk up the Escarpment road to reach the nearest shuttle stop. Your property management offers a pick up and drop-off service, but for freedom to get around a car or hired driver is recommended for the duration of stay.

RESTAURANTS / BARS

In Lower Hirafu you’ll find some of Niseko’s best beloved eateries – Ebisutei, Koharuya and Izakaya Rin are local staples that are worth a visit every season. Drive up to Hirafu’s main street for rentals, convenience stores and a pharmacy – but if you’re driving, it might be easier to avoid the crowds altogether and take the Escarpment road out to Route 5, towards Kutchan Town (about a 15 minute drive). Here you’ll find grocery stores, convenience stores and a wider range of more reasonably priced restaurants.
