Gen-Myo lies south of Hirafu Village, in the tranquil riverside forests of lower Kabayama. Gen-Myo means “superb skillfulness” – an apt name for a chalet that marries the grace and attention to detail of Japanese design with modern luxury to create cutting-edge, award-winning style. Hokkaido cedar features prominently inside and out, and adds warmth to the black metal and stone finishes that round out Gen-Myo’s look. Vaulted ceilings slant toward floor-to-ceiling windows that span the building along two sides, creating vast, panoramic views in every space – taking your eyes either towards Mt. Yotei and the Shiribetsu river valley below, or toward the pristine and tranquil forests behind and above the lodge.
Gen-Myo features three distinct wings, connected by walkways: the first wing is the entrance with undercover garage, ski storage and heated boot racks. Walk through the first walkway to find the central wing, home to an expansive living, dining and kitchen area, complete with spacious lounge and dining suites and your own wood-burning fireplace. Find the tatami room at the end of this wing – perfect for contemplating nature outside. The second walkway also doubles as a quiet office / study space, with a spacious desk and library nook creating a clever break between the living and residential spaces. The final wing houses three bedrooms, all of them with en-suite bathrooms, as well as a feature Japanese-style bath finished in fragrant Hinoki wood. Each bedroom has a loft to house additional guests, and the tatami room can sleep up to 3 additional guests for a total of 12.
This is a stunning, artful space to occupy – deceptively close to the lifts, but just far enough to feel deeply immersed in Hokkaido’s nature.

The master bedroom is at the far end of Gen-Myo for extra privacy. Two guests can sleep here in either one king or two single beds, while a third sleeps in the loft space accessible by ladder above. There are expansive floor-to-ceiling windows on either side on the room, showcasing views of Mt. Yotei and the tranquil forest surrounds. Gen-Myo’s feature onsen-style bath with Yotei views is just next door, while the en-suite bathroom has a separate toilet, shower and its own bath.

The middle of 3 bedrooms in the bedroom section of the building, next door to the Japanese-style bath. This bedroom sleeps two guests in either 1 king or two single beds, with an additional guest sleeping in 1 single bed in the loft upstairs. The room has closets for storage as well as a table and chairs, and its own en-suite bathroom with toilet and shower. Floor-to-ceiling windows on one side of the room (as well as in the bathroom) showcase views of mt. Yotei.

This bedroom is closest to the rest of the building, and sleeps two guests in either one king or two single beds, and an additional guest in the loft bed. There are some chairs for seating, a closet for storage space and an en-suite bathroom with its own toilet and shower. Floor-to-ceiling windows on one side of the room (as well as in the bathroom) showcase views of mt. Yotei.

At the quiet end of Gen-Myo’s residential section, the tatami room can fit up to 3 additional guests. The minimal, understated space has a small seating nook and plenty of storage, and there is a shared toilet just next door for easy access.

Location
SETTING / ATMOSPHERE
Gen-Myo is located in Kabayama, near the Country Resorts estate. This part of Kabayama is a tranquil forest area with few neighbours, uninterrupted views of Mt. Yotei and Shiribetsu River nearby. Despite the quiet, Hirafu’s slopes and central village is just a 6-minute drive away.
LIFTS / TRANSPORT
All of Niseko’s ski resorts are within a 15-minute drive, with Hirafu the closest (just 6 minutes away by car). Gen-Myo has its own undercover garage for parking. Drive up to Route 343 to access Niseko’s resorts, or drive down towards Route 5 and avoid the traffic to get in to Kutchan Town for groceries and supplies.
RESTAURANTS / BARS
Access all of Niseko’s best offerings with a short drive to central Hirafu. Or open up your options with more eateries, bars and groceries available in Kutchan town (a 15-minute drive away). Gen-Myo is close enough for some delivery options, and makes the perfect setting for luxurious in-house dining as well.
