The last “perfect” location left in Hirafu, the bluff next to Hirafu’s Welcome Center sat waiting to be developed for over a decade, and Muwa Niseko finally fills that space masterfully. There are two underground levels: assigned parking on the B2F level, two dining options, a communal onsen and relaxation spa on the B1F / entrance level. On the ground floor, find premium ski rental & valet. These open up directly on to Hirafu’s slopes, with the Gondola an easy downhill ride away and lifts right at the door. Speaking of slope access, there are 12 suites across ground level (1st and 2nd floor, depending on the building side) that features separate entrances straight onto Hirafu’s ski slopes – with storage and drying rack facilities just inside your own private terrace. This kind of private slope access is almost unheard of in Niseko’s four resorts – and an ultra rare luxury in Hirafu.
Relaxation is a big talking point across Muwa Niseko’s own materials – besides the communal onsen hot spring for hotel guests down on the B1 level, but there is also an infinity Onsen located on the top floor – where guests can gaze upon Mt. Yotei while soaking in natural mineral hot springs (booking details to be confirmed). Muwa Niseko houses a total of 114 units across floors 1-7 (note there is no 4th floor, a Japanese numbering tradition). Suite rooms are standard with sizes ranging from 1-bedroom to 4-bedroom, while the top 8th floor houses 5 penthouse suites in either 4-bedroom or 5-bedrdoom layouts, named according to the views they offer.
The penthouse suites are (of course) sweeping and gorgeous, but the regular Suites are also not short on style, features and functionality. Each apartment is stylishly appointed with designer appliances and furniture, with full kitchens, laundry, lounge suites and seating in all units from 1 bedroom and upward. The colour scheme is muted grey and white tones, offset by light hardwood and natural texture panels that house lighting fixtures – a great mix of cool and cozy. Tall windows let in plenty of light – think minimalist, modern and Japan-inspired.
Add an extra Japanese flair to your stay with the Tearoom Suites, which add a gorgeous minimalist entrance and a Japanese-style tearoom with tatami flooring, letting you soak in the traditional as well as the modern. Or dive into the finest luxury Niseko has to offer with a penthouse stay: Muwa Niseko’s unique and stand-out zigzag roof line allows each room in each top-floor penthouse to have a grand steeple ceiling, with panoramic floor-to-ceiling views towards either Mt. Annupuri and the ski slopes, or Mt. Yotei and Hirafu Village. Quite a few suites come with their own private onsen hot spring, usually placed outside on the balcony. Location
SETTING / ATMOSPHERE
Muwa Niseko is located on the ridge just East of the Welcome Center, at the top of Hirafu Village. This is the prime location for ski slope access, as well as getting in and out of the village. It is a quieter area in terms of nightlife and shopping, but all of Hirafu is a quick shuttle ride or easy downhill stroll away. The Hirafu-zaka hill is quite steep, so you may want to take a shuttle or taxi back up to the top!
LIFTS / TRANSPORT
Muwa Niseko’s prime location is right between the two “sides” of Hirafu. From here you can either ski down to the Gondola or take the lift right outside on the “king” side, or walk across the Welcome Center to .base and access the “ace” side. Welcome Center is Hirafu and Niseko’s main transport hub: all in-village shuttles and buses start and stop here to get you around the village, to other resorts, to Sapporo, the airport and beyond.
RESTAURANTS / BARS
Besides two on-site offerings, Suwa Niseko is in the neighbourhood of other large luxury hotels (Skye Niseko, Sansui Niseko) so their restaurants are all at your doorstep. Walk downhill along Hirafu-Zaka for about 5-10 minutes to find more standalone restaurants, izakayas and bars. Select streets off to the left of Hirafu-zaka as you walk downhill will take you to more hidden eatiers and bars throughout the Upper Hirafu neighbourhood.
