Completed in 2019, Wadano Hill Chalet brings luxury western-style living to Hakuba’s leafy Wadano district. Happo-One’s Sakka ski area is a quick 500-meter walk from the lodge – unbeatable ski slope access for those serious about getting their turns in the morning.
Architecturally Wadano Hill Chalet is modern with a gracefully slanted roof creating plenty of extra space and light inside. The interiors are light and airy: white walls matching seamlessly with light wood floors and ceilings, and full-height windows letting in plenty of light.
The layout is simple – one storey centres around an expansive open-plan living, dining and kitchen area, with bedrooms and bathrooms leading off the central space. Three bedrooms house up to six guests in flexible bedding – twin or king depending on your needs. You’re set with appliances with a full kitchen and a dedicated dry room with heated boot racks and your own washer/dryer unit. The master bedroom has its own en-suite with shower, while the rest of the guests share a bathroom with bath and shower.

There are two bedside tables here, a closet for storage, and an en-suite bathroom with its own shower, washstand and toilet. Location
SETTING / ATMOSPHERE
Wadano Hill Chalet sits in the upper part of the Wadano district, a leafy, exclusive neighbourhood nestled in among native forest land near the base of Happo-One ski resort. Although Wadano is a tad removed from central Happo village it has its own selection of restaurants, cafes and equipment rentals and makes a perfect base for those who want to avoid the hectic crowds and narrow streets of central Happo. Village shuttle stops along Wadano’s main streets help you get in to town when needed.
LIFTS / TRANSPORT
Happo-One, Hakuba Valley’s largest ski resort, is at your doorstep with its Sakka area lifts just a short 500 metres from the chalet. A local village shuttle also travels along Wadano’s main road, giving you easy access to Happo’s gondola and central Happo village. While you’ll get to the ski slopes easily, sorting your rentals and groceries out will be easier with your own car – if you bring one, Wadano Hill Chalet comes with free parking.
RESTAURANTS / BARS
Wadano hides a couple of fine restaurants among its leafy streets – the Rabbit Hole is a local favourite, and both Hotel Villa Hakuba and Phoenix Hotel are home to in-house restaurants that welcome non-staying guests. Head to lower Wadano for either Rhythm or Spicy rentals, or in to Happo Village proper for onsen hot springs, izakayas and other eateries – just be sure to book before you go!
