Villa Aoi is an intriguing mix of modern and ancient that takes inspiration from its native Nagano. The sweeping Japanese roof is visually arresting, and comes straight out of ancient Snow Country. Ceiling slats are left exposed on the ceiling inside, exactly as you’d find in traditional houses in this part of Japan. This visual texture brings light, warm wood tones in to every space, and extends from the ceiling with exposed wood pillars and beams. While looking up it is 100% old Japan. Yet, everything below is modern ski chalet. Details matter, and Villa Aoi gets them right – the style, texture and colours of furniture and interior decoration are chosen to carefully complement the striking ceiling, without fighting the traditional look or letting it overwhelm. Full-height windows frame Misorano’s snow-covered woodlands beautifully. This chalet is a graceful feast for the eyes, at home in the magazine spread or insta feed of your choosing.

Villa Aoi spans two storeys. Downstairs is home to three bedrooms and a dedicated gear storage room. Upstairs you’ll find the fourth bunk bedroom, and a large open-plan living, kitchen and dining area. The sofa suite is a real treat here, richly textured and facing an extra large flat-screen TV that’s inset to the living room wall. An upstairs balcony runs the full length of the building, and creates some graceful visual lines while letting you get closer to nature.

Feature-wise it’s all here: a full kitchen, a laundry nook with washer and dryer and a dedicated gear storage room just near the entrance. Among the ever-growing selection of chalets in Hakuba, Villa Aoi is perfect for that visually discerning clientele that values grace and inspiration just as much as comfort in their surroundings.

Villa Aoi
Location

SETTING / ATMOSPHERE

Villa Aoi is located in Misorano, a forested and tranquil neighbourhood just beyond Echoland that’s traditionally home to many private chalets, villas and pensions. Shuttle buses stop here, and Misorano is centrally located in the Hakuba valley, with Echoland and Happo village to one side and Goryu’s village just across the river to the other. With wide plots and plenty of forest between neighbours you’ll feel surrounded by nature, while still being a short drive from anything you need.

LIFTS / TRANSPORT

Misorano’s main shuttle stop is a 7 minute walk from Villa Aoi, with inter-resort buses and free village shuttles both stopping here. The village shuttles will connect you to Happo-One, the nearest and largest ski resort. Outside of main village hubs a car is always recommended in Hakuba (especially as arrival/departure shuttles aren’t provided at this property.) If driving, the train station and supermarkets are all about 5 minutes away, as are Goryu, Happo-One and Iwatake ski resorts.

RESTAURANTS / BARS

Misorano is home to its own selection of restaurants, secreted away among the pensions and chalets in that delightfully Japanese way. San Fermo offers pizza, while Mon Pigeon is a treat for desserts. Walk towards the 7-eleven on the main street and you’ll pass by Garlic, a great spot for Italian cuisine. Right by the 7-eleven Misorano store, Haris izakaya offers a cozy night out for a drink.
