The Moo is a fun name for a seriously comfortable chalet. Completed in 2022, this 2-storey, 6-bedroom house is stylish, modern and generously spacious, with everything you need for a self-contained stay with family or friends.

Architecturally the Moo hits that sweet spot between new and familiar, fitting in nicely with its more traditional-looking neighbors. With this chalet it’s what’s on the inside that counts – Singapore based interior designers ipse ipsa ipsum have added custom furniture pieces and art to every room, giving every interior a distinctive, funky and playful style. It’s rare (yet) to see custom design interiors in Hakuba, and it’s a welcome upgrade for discerning guests.

The Moo has 6 bedrooms across two storeys. Most of the downstairs is taken up by five bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. You can enter via the front door or the garage, with a dryroom with heated boot racks just off the main entrance making accessing your gear easy as pie. There is also a separate downstairs living room with flat-screen TV, a laundry room and downstairs terrace. The upper floor only uses a part of the building’s footprint, giving some of the rooms downstairs generous sloped ceilings and expansive windows that let in plenty of light. Upstairs is home to a grand dining room with space for 20 guests, a generous full-feature kitchen with island counter and breakfast bar, and an expansive living room suite with additional TV. There’s a second balcony leading off the dining room, which showcases the Alps views.

The Moo
Location

SETTING / ATMOSPHERE

Happo Village is Hakuba Valley’s ski and transport hub, and Echoland on its southern end can be thought of as Hakuba’s premier nightlife district. Next to Misorano’s upscale pensions and chalets, Echoland is where many of Hakuba’s best-beloved restaurants and bars find their home: a fun, upscale, internationalized yet cozy apres ski and entertainment district. The Moo sits in an exclusive neighborhood just far enough away from Echoland’s buzzing main street to be secluded and private, while still being an easy stroll from everything on offer here, and transport further up or down the valley.

LIFTS / TRANSPORT

There are plenty of shuttle buses servicing the Hakuba valley. Happo-One (the nearest and largest resort) offers free shuttles connecting Happo, Tsugaike and Iwatake resorts, with a stop 5 minutes’ walk from The Moo. Or use one of two Hakuba Valley bus lines to access every mountain on the Valley Pass: both northbound and southbound routes stop at the entrance to Echoland, an 8-minute walk downhill from The Moo. If the buses aren’t your thing, management offers a 4WD vehicle with your rental (and each resort offers great parking access).

RESTAURANTS / BARS

Start at Echoland’s main street and work your way down (or up) for whatever’s your pleasure – from great western-style cafes with espresso and brunch (Sounds Like Cafe and Penguin) to Izakayas, Barbecue, Yakiniku, Yakiori, fine dining – to great watering holes (Van Gogh, Mockingbird), much of the best of what Hakuba has to offer is in Echoland, and a brisk 5-minute walk from The Moo. If you bring a car, Big supermarket and the restaurant district around Hakuba main street are also a quick 5-minute drive away. Be sure to book in advance for large groups and during the ski season!

Best place to stay in Hakuba! Located strategically near to the bus station and eateries (best ramen in the world!). Beyond our expectation. Highly recommended for those who are looking for a pleasant stay, good internet connection, local + modern vibes. Go experience yourself!

The decor is exquisite and loved the windows in the living room. It was picture perfect to sit by the living room to watch the snowfall. It’s well equipped and the kitchen has everything for a home chef to cook something delicious for the family after a tiring day at the slopes. The rooms are spacious and big. Best of all, there is an area to dry off the ski equipment post skiing. I would totally recommend this place for families and group travellers.

Beautiful house and nicely located in Ecoland. Lots of thoughts go into the design of house for comfort. The best part of the house for me is the huge kitchen and living room where everyone can bond over drinks, food and entertainment.
