Silvler Maple Chalet sits in that sweet area of quiet residential streets, just a quick walk from central Echoland. This is a visually impressive two storey chalet that looks like it has three, with a tilted roof creating oodles of vertical space inside. For that splash of Japanese culture, dark-stained wood beams create a rustic lodge feel and offset the slick interiors. In the vast open-plan living area, floor-to-ceiling windows really showcase the views, and let the snowy scenery right in to your living room. Of course, with underfloor heating you won’t feel the cold – and individual controls in each room let each guest adjust just how warm they need to be.
Most of the bedrooms are housed downstairs, which is also home to the laundry nook and a gear storage area that doubles as a dry room right by the entrance. This floor is also home to a proper Japanese style tub replete with Hinoki wood, separate showers and space enough for four people to soak, and a flat-screen TV to keep you entertained.
Upstairs is mostly taken up by a very generously large, open-plan living, dining and kitchen area. The kitchen stands out with a full host of imported appliances: bonus points for the under-counter wine fridge. Downstairs you’ll also find a tatami room – a traditional multi-purpose space in Japanese homes that’s great for stretching, yoga, meditation, or even just relaxing with a cup of Japanese tea while you soak in the scenery. At night, this room turns into a bedroom, with futon bedding laid out for up to two guests. Located on the ground floor, this is the master suite of Silver Maple Chalet and is the largest of the bedrooms. Two guests can sleep here on either one king or two single beds, depending on preference. There is a desk with chair, a closet for storage, and a large flat-screen TV. Windows on two sides of the room look out at the snowy scenery. The en suite bathroom has a shower, washstand and toilet.

Located on the second floor, the third bedroom can house up to four guests in two bunk beds, with plenty of room in each for adults or children. The room lets in plenty of light with windows on two sides, and houses a desk with table, as well as a closet for storage. The shared feature bathroom with Japanese-style tub and two showers, as well as a separate toilet, is just down the hall from here.

BEDROOM 4
Located on the second floor next door to the bunk bedroom, the upstairs tatami room can also double as a guest bedroom at night. Two guests can sleep here on Japanese-style futon bedding, which can be put away in the daytime. The room offers a Japanese-style floor table, and a window on one side. The shared bathroom with Japanese-style bath and separate showers is just next door.

EXTRA BEDROOM
Originally built as a room for staff or helpers, this small bedroom can house up to two additional guests in one bunk bed. It’s a small room just off the upstairs hallway, next to the tatami room. The shared bathroom next door has a Japanese-style bathtub with separate showers, two washstands, and a separate-access toilet.

SETTING / ATMOSPHERE
Silver Maple Chalet gets the best of both worlds – a secluded, foresty corner at the end of its street, just a short walk from central Echoland, Hakuba’s premier wine and dine district. The chalet is surrounded by woods on two sides, with a few neighbouring chalets visible but not obtrusively close. Meanwhile, those looking for a vibrant nightlife and apres scene should look no further than Echoland’s main street with plenty happening each evening here during the season.
LIFTS / TRANSPORT
Echoland’s bus stops are a 6-minute walk from Silver Maple Chalet. Free village shuttles and inter-resort buses both stop here, and can take you anywhere in the Hakuba Valley. If driving, Happo, Goryu and Hakuba 47 are all within 10 minutes’ drive of Silver Maple Chalet, while Tsugaike and Iwatake are within 15 minutes. As property management doesn’t offer arrival / departure shuttles, a car is highly recommended – both to get in and out of resort, and to explore Hakuba Valley to the fullest. Should you choose to rent from the accommodation provider, they can have a car waiting for you at the property when you arrive.
RESTAURANTS / BARS
Echoland’s main street is an easy win to satisfy any gourmet in the group – with cuisine ranging from western to Japanese to international all an easy walk from home. Sounds Like Cafe is an excellent spot for brunch and western-style coffees. Marukame or Miyama serve delicious bbq meats in Korean or Hokkaido fashion. For izakayas, try Hie or Sarugaku. On a day off the slopes, it’s also worth strolling through Echoland’s quieter streets on the lookout for hidden cafes and eateries. You can just about walk to the BIG Hakuba supermarket, about 23 minutes downhill, or the 7-eleven convenience store – but driving will be easier.
