Kairos by the Mountain is part of a new wave of modern, western-style luxury chalets that are sweeping Hakuba by storm. This two-storey, three-bedroom chalet is strikingly modern outside and stylish yet warm on the inside, with grey stone and wood walls, fixtures and furnishings cleverly lit with recessed lighting to bring these natural textures to life. Inside you’ll find a well thought-out layout with high-end furniture and appliances, and artful design highlights like green succulents adding a splash of liveliness to each space. We love the riveted texture carpet in the living room, the tilted ceilings paired with high windows to brighten up each room.

Feature-wise Kairos by the Mountain packs in all you need for an extended, self-contained stay, separated neatly into residential areas downstairs and living spaces (plus master suite) upstairs. The ground floor is home to two bedrooms, a dedicated dryroom with washer and dryer, and that gorgeous feature bathroom with Japanese-style soaking bath. Floor-to-ceiling windows here open up onto a private wooden deck and let you soak in the natural scenery while you soak the day’s aches and pains away.

Upstairs you’ll find an expansive kitchen and dining area, fully stocked with European appliances. There’s a second kitchen counter that cleverly flows on into a dining table, with seating for eight guests total. The dining area opens up into the living space, with cozy sofas looking out towards both the flat-screen TV, and feature gas fireplace. Grand full-height windows take full advantage of those tilted ceilings to let in stunning views on two sides of the living room. The bunk bedroom’s a real treat with whimsical decorations making it perfect for kids, but just as comfortable for (and sized for) adults.

Kairos by the Mountain
Location

SETTING / ATMOSPHERE

Kairos by the Mountain is located by the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel, just a few minutes uphill from Echoland’s main street. It’s all here location-wise: Echoland is home to rental stores, cafes, restaurants and bars galore, and Echoland’s main street is a short 2-minute walk downhill. Although many of Hakuba’s most famous bars are just down the road, guests of Kairos by the Mountain report the area to be a quiet and tranquil neighbourhood. Views throughout the chalet take in both the snow-covered woodland, and several stylish chalets in the immediate vicinity.

LIFTS / TRANSPORT

The nearest ski shuttle stop is just a minute’s walk from this chalet’s front door, so getting to the slopes is no issue. Management offers a shuttle on arrival and departure, as well as daily supermarket drives to help you stock up on what you need – so Kairos by the Mountain makes that rare beast in Hakuba, perfectly comfortable without your own car. However, if you do bring a car, parking is free and the Hakuba valley really opens up with four of Hakuba Valley’s ten ski resorts less than 10 minutes’ drive away.

RESTAURANTS / BARS

Echoland’s main street offers some of Hakuba’s most exciting and beloved dining and nightlife options, from western cafe and fine dining to Japanese izakayas to Korean BBQ. Beloved bars like Mockingbird and Van Goth are an easy stroll away, although where you are the nightlife noise won’t bother you. Equipment rentals are also available here, so you can gear up without having to get to the slopes. The Yamazaki convenience store is a 4-minute stroll away, or with a car supermarkets, onsens and Happo/Hakuba station’s restaurant options are all within 10 minutes’ drive.

We wish we could stay longer! The house is new and stylish. The design was very well thought out, and perfect for two families. Soaking in the big tub was just relaxing and amazing! We’d love to come back again.

Excellent modern house with everything you need for a big group. Loved the heated floors and huge bath tub. Can’t beat the view from this place during the winter. Rubbish was removed everyday which was very convenient
