There are two Eminence chalets, side by side in an exclusive enclave just a short drive from Hakuba 47 and Goryu’s ski slopes. At this end of Kamishiro there are few neighbours in sight, with forests making up most of what you can see from the expansive ceiling-high windows.
Architecturally these western-style chalets are modern, with a distinctive assymetrical roof design. The interiors feature white walls, light pine finishes and grey stone flooring throughout. Each space here looks fresh, neutral yet warm, with recessed light panels lighting up each room in a gentle and inviting way. Don’t worry about cold stone underfoot – hydronic underfloor heating throughout will keep you toasty warm with individual control panels letting you set the temperature just where you want it in every room.
Find the ski dry room, garage and master bedroom downstairs, and an expansive kitchen/living/dining area with two additional bedrooms upstairs. Everything your group of 6 needs for a long, comfortable stay is here – a full-size kitchen and laundry with a fleet of imported appliances, dining seating for eight and even a cozy terrace deck from which to enjoy the tranquil nature all around. There’s a gas fireplace and flat-screen TV to keep you busy in the lounge, and a car port with separate gear room entry making loading and unloading your snow gear as easy as pie.

Located upstairs, the first bedroom sits just behind the central staircase and next door to the upstairs shared bathroom. Two guests can sleep here in either 1 king or 2 single western beds. There is a closet for storage, a small bedside counter space, a lovely wood wall finish with recessed lighting giving the room a gentle airy feel, and a window on one side with full-length blinds to block out the light if needed.

Location
SETTING / ATMOSPHERE
The Eminence Chalets are located in Kamishiro, just south across the river from Hakuba’s Misorano and Echoland districts. This part of Kamishiro is a sleepier, more secluded neighbourhood and Eminence sits right at the top end, just off the main road that connects Hakuba 47 to Iimori and Goryu ski resorts. There are few neighbours and native forest all around, with glimpses of Hakuba 47’s ski slopes in the distance. Just south of the center of Hakuba Valley, Kamishiro makes a great base for exploring all the valley has to offer, without the hectic bustle of Happo’s morning traffic.
LIFTS / TRANSPORT
Hakuba’s 47 ski resort is a 14 minute walk up the road, or a 2-minute drive away. Though technically walkable, we recommend a car to get around (and property management helpfully provides a 4WD vehicle with the property). 47 is connected on-piste to Iimori and Goryu resorts, and each of their bases are also less than 5 minutes’ drive away. At the bases of 47, Iimori or Goryu, you can find the inter-resort shuttle bus stopping at regular intervals and connecting you to the other resorts in the southern end of Hakuba Valley. Property management helpfully offers a pick up & drop-off service on your arrival and departure in resort.
RESTAURANTS / BARS
This end of Kamishiro is mostly residential, and you’ll need to head down towards the main road for dining options. Luckily Echoland is a short 5-minute drive away and is easily Hakuba’s most vibrant neighbourhood with wining and dining options galore. Or head for Lawson convenience store or BIG supermarket to stock up on supplies to eat at home. Head to Goryu for Hakuba Valley’s only night skiing (with slopes re-groomed at night!), great burgers and two onsen hot spring options: at Goryu base or at Juro onsen – both a great option for a hot medicinal soak at the end of a long day’s riding.
