The Sapporo International Art Festival (SIAF) kicked off on 20 January and, for the first time, it is being held in the winter.

The first Sapporo International Art Festival was during the summer of 2014 across multiple Sapporo venues, with a plan of being held every three years.

Due to the Covid pandemic cancelling the planned 2020 festival, the last time it was held before now was during the summer of 2017.

The current festival, or ‘SIAF2024’ is being hosted across six indoor and outdoor venues across the city from 20 January through 25 February with a theme that matches its first winter iteration of “LAST SNOW”.

About 80 artists from over 10 counties are showcasing creations across multiple mediums, including painting, sculpture, light installations and video, exploring future society and our relationship with snow.

The Sapporo International Art Festival will run through 25 February, also incorporating the longstanding Sapporo Snow Festival from 4 through 11 February.

More information is available on the Sapporo International Art Festival website.
