Sapporo’s Mayor Katsuhiro Akimoto announced his plan to re-evaluate the impact of rising prices on the cost of hosting the Olympic Games in 2030.

Sapporo is bidding on the 2030 Games during a time of inflation, especially in regards to construction materials, and Mayor Akimoto announced his intention to again review the finances during a regular press conference on 24 May.

A revision of projected expenses already took place last November when the cost of hosting was increased by 17 billion yen from a previous estimate, to a total of 317 billion yen.

Since then, the cost of construction materials has continued to rise.

Mayor Akimoto, in making the announcement, also said the re-examination will be matched by a continuation of the efforts to prevent the bid-rigging and corruption that occurred around the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee may announce the host city for the 2030 Games as soon as December of this year.
