The Jolly Fox Niseko Masters has awarded its first Orange Jacket to 2022 champion Josh Carmichael.

The hotly contested Jolly Fox golf series is made up of three events throughout Niseko’s green season – the Invitational (May), International (August) and Masters (May-October).

The Masters is a single elimination tournament contested throughout the summer with the aim of crowning – or in this case ‘coating’ – the best golfer in the region each season.

In its second year of competition this summer, Japan tour pro golfer Carmichael outplayed amateur Trevor Greenwood with a gross score of 73 (net 75 score) to take the title and first orange jacket.

I always dreamt about this jacket when I was a kid – just remembered it was green in my dreams though

Jolly Fox organiser Michael Chen said the pro made quick work of the amateur.

“Josh won five of the first seven holes, dormy by hole 13, and then closed Trevor out 6 & 5 to win the coveted Orange Jacket,” Chen said.

Inaugural Jolly Fox International

This summer also saw the launch of the Jolly Fox International – the first opportunity for overseas visitors to take part in the Jolly as border restrictions relaxed mid-year.

Players from Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and the USA managed to enter and take part in five days of spirited competition across three of Niseko’s most popular courses – Niseko Golf Club, Niseko Village Golf Club, and Hanazono Golf Club.

The event concluded with a gala dinner hosted at the Park Hyatt Niseko.

With two local players ending up winning the competition, anyone who thinks they can take down the locals next year is encouraged to enter.

Looking Towards Summer 2023

With snow on the ground and the ski slopes in Niseko, most golf clubs have been swapped for skis and snowboards.

The full lineup of Jolly Fox events will be back after the snow melts away in 2023.

Golf fans are well advised to follow @jollyfoxniseko to keep up to date with the plans – including the Jolly Fox International for foreign visitors.
