Niseko Autumn Food Festival – feast for all seasons

By 15th September 2020August 1st, 2021Articles, Food & Restaurants

Imagine more than a dozen of Niseko’s best restaurants side by side, each with a mini-menu for you to sample plate-by-plate over a four-day period.

The Niseko Autumn Food Festival run by Niseko Tourism does just that – bringing together the best of the Niseko dining scene in one festive event in the centre of Hirafu in early autumn, marking the start of the final harvest and the end of the green season.

The abundance of fresh produce from the local farms and fertile fields of Niseko is one of the wonders of the non-winter months, and this festival is the best place to enjoy everything Niseko’s green season has to offer.

Food is both Japanese and international in variety, from udon noodles and beef bowls, to gnocchi and Thailand- inspired gapao rice.

The festival is one last hurrah before winter kicks in, and is enjoyed as much by locals as visitors. A growing number of international visitors fly in for the event, and buses bring Sapporo residents from the big smoke to try out the latest creations from the Niseko dining scene. There’s fun for all ages with a jumping castle, Segway rides, a fire pit and live music making it a truly festive event.

Michelin-star restaurant Kamimura even does away with its fine dining degustation menu for the event, so while it can be hard and expensive to try all of Niseko’s best restaurants in one trip, the Niseko Autumn Food Festival gives visitors the opportunity to sample the best of the best in one swoop. Mark it down in your calendar for next September!
