Powderlife co-founder and editor Kristian Lund is a former newspaper journalist who spent time growing up in Tokyo and learned to ski in the Japanese Alps. He earned his stripes as a reporter at News Limited newspapers, and went on to work as a senior media advisor in Australian state government. He started making Powderlife in 2007 after falling in love with life in Niseko during his first visit.

Celebrating the harvest season in the beautiful month of September, the first annual Niseko Autumn Food Festival was a landslide success.

Occupying the large car parking space on the main corner of Hirafu the festival ran for four days beneath an enormous tent, lined with a variety of food and drink vending stalls from some of Niseko’s best culinary masters.

The 2018 event saw some 4000 visitors over the course of the festival with many taking advantage of the free shuttle bus from Sapporo and discounted accommodation offers – making a weekend trip of the event. The abundance of fresh produce from the local farms and fertile fields of Niseko is one of the wonders of summer and with special menus to showcase this produce the festival is the best place to enjoy everything Niseko’s green season has to offer.

The event, produced by Niseko Tourism, was blessed with perfect autumn weather and with a jumping castle, Segway rides, a fire pit and live music, it had a festive vibe carrying all the way through the afternoon and into the evening.

The 2019 event is scheduled for 12-15 September and with Niseko’s best chefs, most charismatic bar tenders and following the overwhelming success of the inaugural festival, it’s certain to be a must-not-miss event on the Niseko calendar in autumn 2019.
