In 2024, the Hokkaido prefectural government will begin supporting Hokkaido wine exports into Singapore.

The goal is to increase such exports from their current level of around 2,000 bottles annually to tens of thousands by targeting famous restaurants and sommeliers.

The outreach to open this export channel was ongoing by last November when Hokkaido Governor Suzuki held business meetings with Sinaporian buyers and sold them wine at department store events.

The hope is that developing the Singapore market will serve as a kind of springboard for expanding Hokkaido wine into other Asian markets and Europe.

Over the last several years, Southern Hokkaido, with its cool climate and fertile soil, has emerged as a leader in Japan’s wine scene, following earlier developed regions such as Nagano Prefecture.
