“Hatsumoude” (Traditional New Year’s shrine visit) at Yamada Shrine, 1 Jan

By 27th December 2011June 28th, 2014

“Hatsumoude” is the first visit of the year to a Shinto shrine. While you’re in Japan, why not experience the New Year in a traditional Japanese way?

Yamada Shrine is located in the Hirafu area and will welcome visitors who wish to pray for happiness in the coming year.

Those who visit the shrine between midnight and 2am on 1 Jan will be offered free “sacred sake!” Yakitori and omikuji (fortune slips) stalls will be on site, too!

Directions to the shrine are on the flyer below.
