IT seems that even former prime ministers are enjoying Niseko’s world-famous powder snow.

Former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe and his wife are believed to have arrived in town last Friday for a long weekend, and stayed at a penthouse in The Vale Niseko.

Abe – the 57th prime minister of Japan, who served in office from September, 2006 to September, 2007 – went skiing over the weekend despite blizzard conditions, and was spotted on the hill with Nisade owners Jonathan Martin and Kal Bragg.

The high-profile couple are also believed to have caused a paparazzi frenzy at Hanazono, after Japanese members of the public recognised them and started taking photos.

They were also seen enjoying some Niseko restaurants including The Vale Niseko’s Vale Bar and Grill and popular izakaya restaurant A-Bu-Cha.

We hope that both Abe-san and his wife enjoyed their stay in Niseko, and welcome them back again soon!
