Famous Saitama Prefecture Whisky Distiller Coming To Hokkaido

Venture Whisky has confirmed that it will build a new distillery in Tomakomai, a port town near New Chitose Airport, with construction to begin this month.

With the goal of starting operations in the spring of 2025, Venture Whisky aims to take advantage of the area’s water supply, climate and affordable land prices.

The new distillery will sit on almost seven hectares of land in the Tomakomai Eastern Industrial Area and is expected to produce 2.4 million litres of product annually.

Best known for its “Ichiro’s Malt” craft whisky, Venture Whisky is a relative newcomer, having opened in 2004.

But in a short time, Venture Whisky became internationally recognised, securing first place in the 2016 World Whiskies Award for Best Japanese Single Cask Malt Whisky.

The company reports that it has been considering the Hokkaido expansion for three to four years.
