Autumn colours out in full force

By 9th October 2010August 27th, 2013

NISEKO is enjoying one of its favourite spectacles as the autumn colours come out across the region.

The mountains are a patchwork of orange, yellow and brown and it’s a favourite time of year in town – locals get to witness another of Niseko’s spectacular seasons, but it’s also exciting because it’s one of the strongest signals yet that winter is on the way.

The winter buzz really starts to kick in Niseko around this time of year and you can feel the excitement and anticpation in the air.

Up high the leaves are already falling off the trees and we’ve had our first snow on the highest peaks.

Snowfall at village level can be expected within the next few weeks.

Last year’s first flakes fell on the villages on October 31 (Halloween), and heavy falls over the following days blanketed the village, with locals hiking up for the first tracks of the season.

The above photo was taken by local photographer Glen Claydon at Shinsen Numa marshlands near Niseko, one of the great spots to view autumn colours in the area.
