Sanzan Chalet (named after Hakuba’s famous three peaks, or “Sanzan”) strikes a bold silhouette with its geometric, slanted shape. For all that this chalet looks sharp and edgy on the outside, inside it is all warmth, airiness and light. Warm wood floors and white walls make for a clean, minimal look. Understated, stylish furniture helps to cozy up the place with just a splash of colour. Massive floor-to-ceiling windows are broken up with wood beams that help evoke an alpine chalet feel. Recessed here are a large flat-screen TV, and a one-touch gas fireplace: simply switch either on with a touch, sit back and relax. Or for those that need to concentrate, there is a long table flush with the living room window where two chairs face the massive windows. This makes a great space for work with stunning scenery to inspire.
The chalet has two storeys. Downstairs you’ll find the entry, three bedrooms and a ski storage area. Upstairs is home to a wide open-plan living area with living room at one end and dining at the other, and a kitchen in the middle. Everywhere, windows are full-height to take advantage of tranquil forest views. The dining area connects to a balcony terrace that’s undercover and sheltered by two walls. Some outdoor furniture here lets you get closer to nature while avoiding prying eyes and bad weather.
With full kitchen, laundry and ski storage you’re set for all your family or group needs for a self-contained stay. A heated driveway is a welcome touch that’ll keep your car snow-free when the powder taps switch on. Best of all, Sanzan Chalet sits just a stone’s throw away from central Echoland – home to restaurants, cafe, nightlife and shops, and excellently connected to inter-resort and free village shuttles.

There’s plenty of space for storage, as well as a closet, and a flat-screen TV in this room for extra entertainment. Though not en suite, there is a shared bathroom just next door with its own toilet, washstand, bath and separate shower.

Location
SETTING / ATMOSPHERE
Located just up the street from main street Echoland, Sanzan Chalet combines the best of secluded forestside living and easy access to nightlife, stores and restaurants. Upper Echoland is home to a host of chalets, pensions and a couple of boutique hotels. Despite the proximity to one of Hakuba’s hubs, Sanzan Chalet is in a quiet area surrounded on all sides by thick, scenic forests.
LIFTS / TRANSPORT
Echoland’s main bus stop is at the bottom of the main street, 900m and 11 minutes’ walk from Sanzan Chalet. Both inter-resort buses and free local village shuttles stop here, getting you to most anywhere in the Hakuba Valley. A car is recommended to get around, although you can easily get to shops and restaurants in Echoland – if driving, Happo-One, Goryu, Hakuba 47 and Iwatake are all less than 10 minutes’ drive.
RESTAURANTS / BARS
Echoland is Hakuba’s gourmet hub, with bars and restaurants galore right on your doorstep. Try Calico for coffee and food during the day, or drinks and chill vibes at night. The range of cuisine here is great: choose from Tex Mex, yakiniku, izakayas, sushi, pizza and more. For groceries drive towards the station around 5 minutes for Big Hakuba, Co-op or Delicia. The 7-eleven in Misorano is the nearest convenience store, a 3-minute drive away.
