Niseko Snow Report
Niseko Snow Report // March 31 // 2010
Just a windborne dusting will cover the groomers this morning, but they'll be in very good condition up high.
Get up early to make the most of the conditions before the day warms up and the winds build.
This fantastic March had to end somewhere and surprise surprise! It's ending on the 31st ... Tomorrow's forecast isn't looking too promising, with a warm front accompanied by rain at lower elevations. We might escape this up high - but I wouldn't bet on it. It will be April after all and very much into Spring weather mode. Get your turns in today would be my advice.
Gates wil open today - probably just after 9.00. Check the latest Avalanche Report here.
I'With the end of March also comesa the end of my regular reports. I'll still be posting updates, but they won't be daily any longer. Thanks to everyone for your kind words and I'll see you on the hill...
Niseko Snow Report // March 30 // 2010
Another beautiful spring day in Niseko. Just a dusting of fresh snow over the groomer, but still good turns to be had.
We're looking for more snow again from this afternoon, ahead of a warm front moving in from tomorrow. Get your best turns in ahead of that front would be my advice, as we may be looking at rain Thursday!
Peak gates are expected to open at 9.30 this morning, but check here for the latest info on gate opening times and Avalanche conditions.
Niseko Snow Report // March 29 // 2010
March 29 - This month is never going to stop.
Another amazing Niseko day with a great 20+cms in the last 24 hours and blue blue skies to enjoy it in ! Great conditions for any time of the season, unbelievable for the end of March!
We're looking at a fairly cold day, but this bright sun will still fry through especially down low. North faces and trees will hold their condition better for longer.
Gates should be open at 9.30 or so. Check here for the latest Avvie report & gate opening times.
Niseko Snow Report // March 28 // 2010
Marching on...
Coming to a snow resort this late in the season is a gamble. Just a few degrees more warmth and any precip is rain and you're waterskiing and walking around in a mud bath. Not Niseko. Not this year. This March has been fantastic and the 30cms plus of super dry snow in the last 24 hours is proof of that. It's almost April yet faceshots were the order of the day yesterday - and because there's NO-ONE around they could be found all day! If you gambled & are in town now, you hit the jackpot... if you thought about coming over but you're reading this anywhere else the world, sorry, but you lost big!
And then last night the snow really came down... In short - today will be an unbelievable day. The forecast today is for cold temps, a bit of sun, no wind, and more snow. God conditions should continue thru to round Thursday when another system could bring a temporary warming ahead of another good fall of snow.
All the usual powder haunts are great, though generally the higher you are the better.
Peak gates today should open at 10.00 - check here for an Avvie Report and the latest backcountry info.
Enjoy today - you've won!
Niseko Snow Report // March 26 // 2010
With snowfalls predicted to continue this year's great March looks set to continue for a while longer. The temps have also been cool, with only the one truly sun-baked day as the exception.
This morning's light snowfall looks like it wil continue intermittently, getting heavier after lunch. No significant winds. The sun is trying its best to chase away those clouds but we'll have to see who wims that batle.
Back country gates should open round 10.00 this morning, but check here for the latest info on gates and Avalanche report.
Enjoy your day out there make the most of these fantastic end-of-March freshies!
Niseko Snow Report // March 25 // 2010
It's hard to believe we're at the end of March when you look at the snowpack, but yesterday's unbelievable views are as good a sign as any. Weren't they spectacular! A great day on the hill all round and with no crowds at all!
Though overcast, today should be another good day on the hill with coolish temps, no wind, and more snow expected from around lunchtime. Once it starts, the snowfall is expected to continue through until Monday.
The peak gates are due to open at 9.30, read the latest Avalanche Reports here.
Hope you all enjoy your day!
Niseko Snow Report // March 24 // 2010
Niseko with bluebird skies and fresh underfoot... is there anywhere you'd rather be than right here, right now !?
Today will be great up on the hill with the fresh from last night, cool overnight temps, and today's great vis combining for a memborable day. The skies should remain clear for most of the day, though temps in the village will start to climb.
Looking for more snow again tommorrow night, continuing off and on for the week following that. All-in-all a great time to be in Niseko!
The back country gates will probably open at 9.30 today. Read the latest Avalanche report here before stepping out.
Niseko Snow Report // March 23 // 2010
Another nice overnight snowfall has Niseko feeling more Wintery than Springy, not that anyone's complaining mind you!
This last few days have seen some of the heaviest snow of the season - though not sustained as long as a true mid-winter storm. There is lots of fun to be had in the current conditions, and tonight there's a good dump predicted meaning tomorrow should be better again!
The rest of the week all looks good so if you're in town right now you've really timed it perfectly - it's hard to believe it's late March!
Today should see the peak gates open - but visibility may hamper your fun. Check here for the latest info on gate opening times and Avalanche Conditions.
Niseko Snow Report // March 22 // 2010
Good overnights falls of approximately 30 cms (though difficult to gauge due to the extreme winds!) Some areas were scoured clean overnight, others have drifts better than a metre deep!
Strong gusts remain this morning making the re-opening of lift operations difficult. Check current lift status by following this link then clicking on your area. The wind should lessen somewhat through the day ahead of more snow tonight.
If you can find somewhere out of the wind and unaffected by the warmth you'll have a bag of fun today.
All gates are closed with extreme avalanche conditions posted. Check here for the latest updates.
Niseko Snow Report // March 21 // 2010
Well the wind which had pretty much closed the mountain has eased a bit and now there are a few more lifts open. Most are still lower height lifts so check here before you head up - simply click on your area within Niseko (Grand Hirafu / Niseko Village / Annupuri)
These winds should blow themselves out and after that we'll be looking for some better snow, with tomorrow looking somewhat promising. I'd be looking for sheltered runs away from the wind still - you'll probably find some nice deep pow stashes in there somewhere - just be aware that the rain may have left some steel hard ice under the surface.
Best options today: jump in an onsen, eat & drink too much, or take a run down to Otaru or Sapporo or something... or try all three!
All backcountry gates are closed for fairly obvious reasons.
