Niseko Snow Report
Niseko Snow Report // 03 March // 2012
Stunning blueskies this morning, and despite the lack of fresh there's still lots of snow out there. Don't forget to pack your camera for some spectacular Yotei shots from up on the slopes.
We're hoping for a few flakes through the day today - though for that to happen we'll need a bit more cloud than what's over us right now. You can check your current lift movements here to help your planning. The courses should be in very good nick this morning, and as we move into spring the terrain parks really come into their own.
If you're looking to head off-piste, get for your full backcountry report click here. With the bright sun followed by cold nights we get into a bit of a freeze-thaw cycle on southerly slopes and at lower elevations. This can result in some very difficult skiing conditions off-piste. Be aware of that as you head out.
Enjoy your day.
I'm going to sign off today on this season. Thanks to all of you for your positive feedback, and see you out there!

Niseko Snow Report // 29 February // 2012
Decent falls through the day yesterday gave way as evening fell, leaving only a few flakes to come down through the night. As a result today will feel a lot less like 14 cms of fresh than it should and you'll have to go looking for freshies. Check you current lift operations here.
Today's biggest weather feature will be the rollercoaster temps, warming through the day, cold again overnight, warm again tomorrow, cold again after that we hope. Thankfully we're only expecting temps to hover around zero even at base elevation and the higher you go up the less the snow should be affected. Expect these warm days to become more frequent as we move ahead into March - but don't worry - there's still lots of cool air and snow still due!!
Out the back the conditions will be similar - also note that these swings in temperature will begin to impact on the snowpack - and not for the better! Check Shinya's latest Avvy Report here.
Enjoy your day...
Niseko Snow Report // 28 February // 2012
A touch more overnight snow to help keep things in tip top shape. No complaints there.
Expecting winds to have abated somewhat today, but otherwise look for occassional snow showers from intermittent cloud cover with nice cool temps as well. Check here for your current lift operations.
Tomorrow were a expecting a transitory warm front to push through raising temps for the day ahead of a return of cooler temps for the rest of the week. Hopefully it won't beat up the snow conditions too much.
Out the back there should be some fun to be found today & you'd expect the peak gates to open at 9:30 am. For a more detailed backcountry report, follow this link.
And have fun!
Niseko Snow Report // 27 February // 2012
From beginners to grizzled powder vets you've got to be happy with conditions like today: unlimited visibility and a decent overnight fall making a great start to another week in Niseko. Check your lift movements here.
Expect these conditions to stay the same through today, with more light falls expected over the next 24 - 72 hours amongst broken cloud cover. Temps should stay cool until a temporary warming midweek, but that shouldn't affect except the very lowest elevations...
Gates are expected to remain closed today due to slide risk. Please respect the ski patrol's decision but it's there for everyone's safety . For a more detailed backcountry report check here.
And have fun...!!
Niseko Snow Report // 26 February // 2012
Bam!
The snow is back and it's lighter than ever - should be a great morning on the hill! It is a Sunday so expect numbers to be up a little but even so, with this much fresh there should be enough for everyone. A few of the more exposed lifts may well have their run speeds reduced today and / or may close early. (Be aware of this if you're crossing from area to area as getting back can become difficult & might even mean a bus trip.) Check current lift movements here.
We're expecting current conditions to remain with us for another 24 hours plus before giving way to some clearer air and better visibility.
The backcountry will have lots of fresh, but with windloading in areas you'll want to know where you're heading and avoid high avalanche risk areas. Check the latest Avvy Report here before you head out, and have fun out there!
Niseko Snow Report // 25 February // 2012
Although we've had no new snow worth speaking of, at least the worst of yesterday's winds have moved on. We're looking at a cool day today with the chance of snow building through the day to (hopefully!) a decent fall tonight. And expect similar conditions to remain for around for a few days.
While significantly calmer, the winds have not entirely disappeared and may yet impact lift movements. Check current lift conditions here to be sure.
Out in the backcountry you may have a chance of finding somewhere good, but you'll have to look hard as I'd expect freshies to be at a premium today. The peak gates are scheduled to open at 9:30 today. For a more detailed backcountry report check here.
Have a great day out there.
Niseko Snow Report // 24 February // 2012
Warm conditions through the last 24 hours have given way to a drop in temps - but a sharp rise in wind. We're seeing some very gusty conditions which will really impact upon the days enjoyment levels. Expect the wind to hang around till mid afternoon before finally easing. And for it to play havoc on lift movements today with some lifts running slow - others closed altogether. Check here for the latest lift info.
For the best of it, head to the trees - especially on lee slopes.
In the backcountry today you'll have some varied conditions with exposed & sunlit faces wind-scoured hard-pack; and then deep stashes in more sheltered positions. Add in the wind & you've got some testing riding conditions - all a part of the challenge!! Find somewhere out of the wind and enjoy it! The gates are expected to open but that will be subject to local conditions. For a full backcountry report, check here.
Wherever you end up - enjoy it. (A good stretch, a great coffee, and a long hot Onsen sounds good to me!)
Niseko Snow Report // 23 February // 2012
A great bluebird day ahead by the look of things this morning, make sure you take a camera up and get in nice and early would be my advice. Only a sprinkling of fresh overnight and we're expecting things to soften up with warm temps through the day - though that should give way to some more heavy snow overnight tonight - snow that looks set to stick around into early next week. For your current lift movements, check here & click your area.
The peak gates are scheduled to open at 9.30 so get up there nice and early to ensure freshies. There's a detailed backcountry report available here. Also remember that the weather can change quickly in the mountains, and that even a benign looking morning may turn ugly by late afternoon.
Enjoy your day!
Niseko Snow Report // 22 February // 2012
Not the best day on the hill with only a dusting to report - though we're looking at some better vis than the last few days. Wind will still likely play a key role in the weather as lift operations are expected to be slowed by today's Nor'Westers in some locations. Stick to more protected faces & runs & you'll be find; plus there's still lots of freshies around the edges for the sharp-eyed amongst you.
The weather tomorrow and following days looks somewhat "confused", with clear air ahead of a warm front pushing in tomorrow. Following that we're likely to see heavy snow and a sharp drop in temps, as well as some gusty wind at times. (That's what happens when you have five different weather systems pushing and pulling the air above you!) Later in the week the weather should stabilize more with steady snow likely.
Lift movements are here, be aware that a few of the more exposed lifts may run slow - or close early - consider this as you cross between resorts. (Getting back maybe difficult if lift "X" isn't running!)
For a detailed backcountry report check here - though be aware that peak gates are not scheduled to open today.
Niseko Snow Report // 21 February // 2012
A nice overnight snowfall should have the groomers in good nick this morning - though for those of you chasing waistdeep pillow lines it might not have been quite enough to make you really happy. Check your lift movements here.
Only expecting scattered light snow showers today, easing as the day progresses. We're also expecting the winds to give way through the day. Tomorrow should be relatively calm, with the snows returning Thursday.
If you're looking to go beyond the borders of the resort please check the Avalanche Report here before you head out.
And have fun out there!
