Description

This family-run hostel is an extremely popular accommodation option for those looking for an authentic Japanese hospitality experience. With great reviews and a number of returning guests, Pension Clydesdale is a far cry from the dominating presence of Rusutsu’s big hotel developments – and instead offers a home away from home hosted by friendly local couple, Mori and Yoko.

A Pension is the name given to a Japanese hostel-style accommodation option, and is a great way to explore Hokkaido (and Japan in general). Often offering comfort, convenience and great value for money, guests can expect a very genuine experience during a stay, and Pension Clydesdale is no different. The property is quite small in that in only offers 5 guestrooms – perfect for a large group looking for a private house, or for small families and couples looking for relaxed, Japanese accommodation close to the resort.

The pension is situated a short drive (5 or 6 minutes) away from the ski lift access itself, but whilst it is a little too far to walk, transport is not an issue. Pension Clydesdale’s hosts are always on hand to shuttle their guests to and from different areas in Rusutsu, offering a very personal and dependable service which many previous guests have celebrated in their reviews. Another wonderful feature of Pension Clydesdale is the food that its hosts lovingly prepare. Multiple course dinners are cooked in the Japanese style with local produce, providing a truly unique dining experience that can’t be found in any of the large hotels elsewhere in resort. Breakfast is also available, and stands as the perfect start to any day in the white room of Rusutsu’s world-famous powder snow.

Pension Clydesdale Accommodation

Cosy guestrooms are furnished simply. Expect tatami (Japanese woven bamboo) matting and wood finishes within this fresh and clean pension, which offers twin rooms with Western style beds. Wifi is available throughout the building, and the bathroom (which includes a beautiful big bath) is shared. Please note that water for the shower can only be used at particular times of the morning and evening.

Pension Clydesdale Location

Unlike nearby Niseko (Grand Hirafu), which is a 40 minute drive away, Rusutsu does not have a lively evening / party scene – making it ideal for Japanese visitors and family groups. Ultimately, this resort’s focus is its snow and the magical skiing or snowboarding experiences that it delivers – leaving the evenings free to relax. Pension Clydesdale is the perfect location for this, and the building is situated just a short drive out of the central Rusutsu town area. Free parking is available on site for those travelling by car, otherwise the pension’s free shuttle service can get you from the slope to the sofa.
