Description

Whilst Rusutsu is abundant in smart, more exclusive accommodation choices from private chalets to extensive hotels, there remains a need for less expensive options specific to those travelling Hokkaido in a more economical way. Lodge Romulus is fantastic place to stay for those who find interior design and chic fittings irrelevant. Instead, here you’ll find great value for money, cultural details and fantastic hospitality from this family-owned business in the heart of the Rusutsu area.

With an initially rather strange external appearance (expect turrets, arched entrances and stained glass windows), this local hotel-style building is immediately charming through its numerous quirky features. Across Hokkaido and japan in general, travellers can come across local hostel-style hotel buildings which go by the name of ‘Pension’. A pension is usually comfortable, affordable and locally owned, and as such, Lodge Romulus is a fine example of such an accommodation option which – despite a few outdated features – offers a great stay.

Breakfast is available at Lodge Romulus, and as a cultural detail, Yukata (Japanese style pyjama robes) are available to use here. Free internet access is available via the shared computer onsite within the pension, and free parking can also be enjoyed for those exploring Hokkado’s best ski areas on four wheels.

Lodge Romulus Accommodation

Western style twin beds are in place across this pension, and all bedrooms have a private bathroom. A maximum of 20 people can stay at Lodge Romulus across 9 bedrooms at any one time. Fantastic views look out over the magnificent Rusutsu landscape from select rooms.

Lodge Romulus Location

Rusutsu village is based along a single main road which runs the length of the valley – within which the ski area is based around East and West facing mountain ranges. Ski access, along with an extensive list of other winter (and summer) activities are mostly found within the large development of the Rusutsu Resort Hotel. This can be found just a short walk away from Lodge Romulus, making its location convenient for those looking to explore what the area has to offer as easily as possible. Rusutsu itself is only a short 90 minute drive away from Sapporo’s New Chitose Airport. This makes transfers very simple, especially since a regular connecting bus / coach service is available to make this quick journey from city into the heart of Hokkaido’s stunning backcountry.

For those looking for more experiences outside the Rusutsu valley, there are a number of nearby destinations that many visitors enjoy a daytrip to during their stay. Nearby Niseko offers an abundance of skiing and snowboarding, as well as a lively ski village / après ski atmosphere (which will not necessarily be found in quiet Rusutsu). Additionally, the stunning Lake Toya is a 30 minute drive from the resort, and offers magnificent views across a volcanic lake and its central, conical islands within.
