Description

Slowlife Niseko (aka Slowlife Petit Hotel) feels like a backpackers hostel as you walk in the door – mainly because you walk straight into the communal lounge room where you will usually be greeted by a dozen or more smiling guests and the lodge’s super hospitable staff. After a few introductions they’ll take you down the hall to the back part of the building where the living quarters are. You soon realise this ain’t no backpackers with beautifully appointed private rooms, many with great views.

Dump your bags and get settled before getting serious about the number one reason for your Niseko holiday – skiing. There’s a drying room at the front door so you can grab your gear, cross the road and get straight onto the free shuttle up the mountain, even if it’s dark – the lifts run until 8.30pm! Or if you can hold on, the next best option is to head to the lounge and start up a conversation with the staff or guests, many of whom will have been out there all day and will be able to give you tips on the upcoming weather and where you should head for your first runs.

Back at the lodge and the in-house chef and staff will prepare a hearty breakfast for you every day. The common room features satellite TV if you need to catch up some entertainment, while the lodge has free wifi internet and coin operated laundry. The studio room has its own bathroom, but otherwise there are share bathrooms with great hot showers and traditional Japanese-style baths.

Slowlife Niseko Accommodation

Slowlife Niseko sleeps up to 30 people with a variety of great value rooms. All have Western-style beds but some of the rooms have traditional tatami (woven straw mat) flooring for that authentic local touch.

Room configuration options are: single; double and twin; twin bunk (ie sleeping two); triple with three single beds; quad with four single beds. There is also a studio option sleeping up to three people with a double bed and a single fold out futon bed, ensuite, kitchen, and dining area.

Slowlife Niseko Location

Slowlife Niseko is located in Izumikyo 2 – a quiet sub-section of Hirafu. It’s a long walk up to the lifts and the main part of the village from here (probably 20 minutes or more if you’re keen) but the free village shuttle stops outside the door every 10-15 minutes from morning till night. This shuttle can take you to any of the main lifts in Hirafu within five to 10 minutes, and also close to all the village’s bars, restaurants and shops.

There are several great little restaurants and cafes within Izumikyo 2 and all within just a few minutes walk. Two standouts are Tsubara Tsubara where you have to try the local speciality soup curry, and also Graubunden which does great fresh sandwiches, bread rolls and cakes.
