Description

Moiwa Lodge Niseko is probably the coolest looking rustic old mountain lodge in Niseko. It’s a huge old wooden building that wouldn’t be out of place in a European ski resort, and commands a distinct presence right at the foot of Mt Moiwa, just a few steps from the lifts. The lodge is very typical of many log cabin style Japanese ski lodges in the quiet resort of Moiwa, offering an authentic Japanese ski holiday, unlike the common Hirafu ski holiday most people experience these days. It has recently been refurbished and refurnished giving it a comfortable modern lodge feel.

It’s a four-story building with all the facilities expected of a real ski lodge and more. There is an in-house restaurant, Japanese-style bar and huge communal living areas with pool table, TV and DVDs and of course wireless internet. Of course there’s also a ski room and drying room for your gear.

Moiwa Lodge Niseko will most probably be filled with serious powder skiers, keen to get away from the hustle and bustle of the upmarket resorts and enjoy the semi-isolated feeling of Moiwa. It’s now safe to say Moiwa is “famous” for its epic backcountry powder skiing – it used to be very little known to anyone from outside the area. There are just two lifts but that is all that is needed. One lift is a short beginners lift for newbies, and the other lift runs right to the peak of the mountain. From there you traverse out until you find some untracked powder and drop in for the ultimate powder experience. Over and over again!

Moiwa Lodge Niseko Location

Moiwa Lodge is right at the base of Mt Moiwa, just 100m walk from the lifts. If you haven’t heard of Moiwa, it’s like Niseko’s little brother, a single mountain standing on its own alongside the Mt Annupuri, which is home to the four main Niseko resorts Annupuri, Niseko Village, Hirafu and Hanazono.

There aren’t many restaurants or bars in the area, but you can catch a bus to the other resorts. Or if you have a hire car you can explore the greater Niseko area with ease, making this the ultimate Japanese ski holiday base!

Basic as. Would I go again…no.
Snowboarding was good and the team at the rental area were very helpful getting my stepon bindings attached to the rental board. Would have brought my own board…but ran out of space. We had family room and have to trapse through the building past folks in various stars of undress while they hairdry their socks….wash themselves in the basin. While not the end of the world …not my thing…been through hostels in my earlier years but I’d rather,at the very least have my own toilet and shower. Next time I’ll book earlier and spend a bit more …you get what you pay for…too true.
