Lodge Hakuunso Living Area | Upper Hirafu

Newly rebuilt in 2016, Lodge Hakuunso is one of the longest-running accommodations in Hirafu Village – still owned and run by the family that built it. The newly rebuilt lodge mimics the shape of a traditional Japanese barn. Lofty ceilings and full-height windows let in uninterrupted views of Mt Yotei. And with nothing but snow plains and forests below in this quiet part of Hirafu, you WILL enjoy the view.

Each of the 20 rooms features twin western bedding. All rooms open out to a central lobby and living area, with chairs and tables available for guests to relax at any time.

The lodge is about 150m down the road from the Hirafu Gondola and offers unofficial ski-in access via a path plowed out by the staff (be sure not to ski on the roads though!). For those who want to preserve their legs until they hit the slopes, and don’t want to walk up the hill, the lodge does run a private shuttle service each morning.

Unchanged from its previous incarnation, there are laundry facilities, secure ski and snowboard storage facilities, a drying room and a waxing room. The lodge has its own, naturally dug hot spring, which is a great way to end a long day of powder hunting to ease those aching legs.

The lodge offers a comprehensive Japanese-style buffet breakfast each morning to get you fuelled up for the day, and also offer an affordable buffet dinner for those guests who don’t feel like going out for a meal.

Lodge Hakuunso
Location

SETTING / ATMOSPHERE

Lodge Hakuunso is located in Upper Hirafu Village, about 150m down the road from the Hirafu Gondola Station. It’s a quiet location in the upper village, with restaurants and convenience stores an easy walk but no noise to worry about.

LIFTS / TRANSPORT

From the Gondola, you can catch the free village shuttle to get around to the Ace Family or Ace Pair & Quad lifts as both are probably a little too far to walk. The Niseko United shuttle, which runs to the other ski areas on the mountain, stops a little way up the road. The lodge also runs its own private shuttle to some of the lifts each morning.

RESTAURANTS / BARS

There are plenty of great restaurants in the Upper Village, and even though the Lodge is on the outer edge of the village it’s still not too far to walk for an après drink at one of the many lively bars in town, or to get a fantastic meal at any pick of Hirafu’s top eateries.
