Description

Lodge Fuu is a great value local family-run pension on the outskirts of the Hirafu Village. The owners run a shuttle to the lifts, or it’s about 10-minutes walk to the ski lifts or restaurants of Hirafu. The beauty of staying out here is you get the enjoy all the peace and quiet of the Hokkaido countryside with the finest of Japanese hospitality.

All aspects of the lodge are immaculately clean and the service is second to none. There are both Western and Japanese style rooms, some with ensuites. There are common bathrooms for others.

One of the really great things about Lodge Fuu is the incredible hospitality. These guys are absolutely dedicated to making sure you have a hassle free awesome holiday. It starts the moment you get dropped off and welcomed with a smile and made to feel instantly at home. They’ll ask you each night if you want breakfast, and if you say you do it will be ready the minute you get downstairs. They will drive you to the slopes when you want to go and come back when you ask them to to pick you up. And the same for going out for dinner as well.

Lodge Fuu also has a small ski storage/drying room; there are coin-operated laundry facilities; wifi internet; a laptop you can borrow if you don’t have your own; vending machine for drinks; as well as basic catering facilities like a microwave and hot water.

Lodge Fuu Accommodation

There are a range of rooms to suit all budgets and travel party requirements. There are ensuite rooms that can sleep between one and four people; rooms without ensuites either Western or Japanese style that can sleep one to four people; and bunk rooms with two bunks sleeping up to four people.

The beds are perfect size for the average Japanese person, but might feel a bit small for a big foreigner. Unless your height is over 2m you should be fine unless you’re super fussy. And like the rest of the lodge, the rooms are immaculately clean. The rooms have TVs with lots of Japanese channels, which can be very entertaining.

There are two bathrooms and two toilets. One of the bathrooms has a huge Japanese style “ofuro” bath – shower and wash first sitting on the prvovided stools, then once your clean jump on in. Remember, this is for everyone to use so you don’t just jump straight in unwashed! Like good food, a hot Japanese bath is one of the cornerstones of the Japanese way of life.

Lodge Fuu Location

Lodge Fuu is about a 10-15 minute walk from the slopes and all the action of Hirafu. But just this short walk away and you’re in the middle of the Hokkaido farming country, with just a few other houses, lodges and restaurants. And the most amazing view across snow-covered farm fields to the incredible Mt Yotei – the Mt Fuji-like volcano you see in all the photos.

For those with families, the distance might be a bit hard to walk, but your hosts will be more than happy to drive you.
