Description

Mokunonosho offers the perfect spot for a relaxing Niseko holiday. Situated behind the Moiwa ski area, the hotel is set amongst old-growth forests, and sits beside the Momiji Waterfall which flows into the Niseko Anbetsu River.

As soon as you step into the hotel you will notice the amazing artworks on display, from folding screens in the lobby and oriental lamps in the lounge area, to wood carvings by master woodcarver Masamitsu Takiguchi from the Akan area of Hokkaido. There is also lots of Ainu art – the Ainu are the indigenous people of Hokkaido.

The hotel has their own onsen (natural hot spring bath) and has several different options for bathing. The public bath, Meisen No Yu, is located on the first floor of the hotel. The bathing areas are separated by gender and each has an indoor bath and an outdoor bath, as well as a sauna. The second floor of the hotel has a private bath, Wasen No Yu, which is available for hire in 50-minute blocks and has a view overlooking the Niseko Anbetsu river and the surrounding forest. It’s great for those who are a bit unsure about public bathing, or for families or couples who want some privacy. The hotel also has a treatment spa, Yukiko, which offers facials and full body treatments using aromatherapy oils.

The hotel has internet in the lobby and guest rooms, as well as a PC corner in the lobby which has a limited number of laptops for guests to use.

Mokunosho Accommodation

Mokunosho has a variety of room types from twin rooms to larger rooms and suites, and rooms which can interconnect for larger groups or families. There is a mix of Western and Japanese-style rooms, with the Japanese-style rooms featuring traditional tatami (woven straw) mats. Some of the rooms include their own private in-room onsen so you don’t even have to leave your room to enjoy the natural hot springs. The rooms offer views of the surrounding forests and some overlook the Niseko Anbetsu River.

Mokunosho Location

Mokunosho is located just behind Moiwa ski area, about a 20-minute drive from the Hirafu ski area. JR Niseko station is about 10-minutes by car, and the hotel offers a free shuttle service from both JR Niseko station and JR Kutchan station by prior arrangement for those guests arriving in Niseko by train. They can also organise pickups from the nearby Annupuri ski area. Due to the remote location, there aren’t any shops or restaurants nearby, but the hotel does offer in-house dining in it’s Japanese restaurant Shorai. The menu changes regularly and guests can enjoy dishes made with local ingredients including freshly caught seafood from Uchiara Bay, on the Pacific Ocean, and Iwanai fishing port on the Japan Sea. If you have a car, there’s a 7-11 convenience store about 10-minutes drive away.
