M-Hotel is the place to stay if you want clean, comfortable, mid-range accommodation in the heart of all the action of Hirafu. It’s right across the road from the main convenience store in town (trust us – you will need this!), 3 or 4 minutes walk from the nearest lifts, and comes with breakfast included in the cost. If you’re here to ski, eat and sleep, you can’t do much better than this.
The hotel was built new just a few years ago, positioned in a prime position at the top of Momiji-Zaka Street – one of the wining and dining hotspots of Hirafu. Some rooms also happen to have spectacular views of the resident Mt Fuji-like volcano, Mt Yotei.
There’s not too much Japanesey about the design of M-Hotel – it’s designed for international skiers who want everything they’d expect at your usual apartment hotel. Each room comes with standard hotel room inclusions – TV, small fridge and toiletries, plus microwave and tea and coffee making facilities. There’s also a surprisingly well equipped gym in the building too!
There is a choice of two room configurations – either an 18sqm standard room, or 37sqm suite room. Standard rooms are pretty much your standard hotel room. Suite rooms have the bedroom portioned off from a living/dining area with large couch, work desk and small dining table for two. Bedding is king size, in either double or twin configuration – enjoy!
All rooms have ensuites. Standard rooms have showers, while suite rooms also have baths. (While you’re here though, you really should try out a few of the local onsen hot spring baths!)
Being a hotel as opposed to apartments, there is just basic food preparation and storage facilities, and tea and coffee making appliances. With the convenience store across the road (try all their Y300-Y500 bento lunch/dinner boxes) and a dozen restaurants at your doorstep, you don’t even want to think about cooking!
Views are either of the surrounding village or the full majesty of Mt Yotei, the resident picture postcard volcano.
M-Hotel is located almost right on the main street of Hirafu, in the very centre of the village. Location doesn’t come much better than this.
The family lift is just a 3 or 4-minute clomp down the road, but the free village shuttle also stops right above the hotel on the main road. It can take you to any lift, gondola, ski hire shop or restaurant your heart desires.
If you just want to ski, sleep and eat the bare basics – that’s a bit of shame. Because within 200m you’ve got your choice of some seriously amazing restaurants to suit all budgets. There’s also no lack of drinking holes if you want to taste some local Japanese beer or sake before you retire back to your room.
