Description

Kimamaya, a cosy micro-boutique hotel in the heart of Hirafu, absolutely lives up to its Japanese meaning of “be yourself”. With just nine rooms this exclusive luxury lodge is a refurbed version of one of Niseko’s early chalets built over 25 years ago. Its redesign in 2009, as Niseko enjoyed increasing international recognition for the quality of its powder snow, created an establishment of charm and comfort offering a personal, cosy experience.

Kimamaya Boutique Hotel Living Area | Middle Hirafu Village

Four configurations have been used for Kimamaya’s nine rooms to fashion an atmosphere of simplicity, warmth, friendliness and beauty with judicious choice of colours, textures, materials, lighting and accessories.

One of Niseko’s finest restaurants, The Barn by Odin, serving French alpine inspired cuisine and a range of fine wines, is located on site.

Four configurations allow guests to “be yourself”: Alpine 1 for up to two guests with a king bed that can be split into two; Alpine 2 for up to two adults and one small child – a slightly larger room with an ottoman which can be used for the child; Loft 1 for up to four adults and a small child – slightly larger room again with a mezzanine floor set up as a traditional Japanese tatami room for two adults and a small sofa that could be used for a child; Loft 2 offers the same accommodation is the same as Loft 1.

Premium down beddings and cotton linens create the optimum conditions for a good night’s sleep after a strenuous day’s skiing or snowboarding with a choice of three types of pillows – soft, medium and hard. All rooms are equipped with ensuite bathrooms featuring rain showers and toilets. The rooms are fitted with flat screen TV, DVD, ipod docking and wifi.

A day spa offers massage services such as Japanese back massage, shiatsu, aromatherapy and full body massage and guests can soak in wooden (moku) or stone (ishi) spa tubs – perfect for relaxation or for easing those aching muscles after a long day on the slopes.

We loved our first stay at Kimamaya this past February 2018 with our two boys, aged 5 and 10. The two story bedroom (with kids beds and little private den upstairs) was great and gave us the space we needed; and the small boutique hotel feel really made Kimamaya a home away from home. The staff was attentive and helpful, suggesting and booking dinners for us, but also super accommodating when we wanted to have a take away pizza ‘at home’ and suggested we should relax in the bar area … the lovely bottle of sparkly wine we had with it, made it a wonderful, relaxing evening. We also found the central location of the hotel brilliant. We had previously stayed in ski in/out places in Niseko and were a little reluctant about having to take the Kimamaya shuttle bus to the Hirafu Gondola and back every day. But this turned out to be a non event and very efficient; we were given a phone to call and our taxi arrived within a few minutes later. Also loved the in-house massage/SPA and wished I had booked earlier and a few more slots! Will most definitely book them in advance next year!!! So yes: we definitely plan to go back to Kimamaya in 2019. :-)

I worked with Peter and his team for 8 people from Portland and Hood River OR. Four couples that want to go to check out the area and try all the amazing food, on sens, different ski areas etc. They took care of everything with emails and when we got there it was better than we thought it could be. We will stay here again and again. Peter and Haruka were exceptional hosts and run a tight operation. Back to kids and jobs etc-but this will always be in the memories….thank you!

On first hearing about Niseko, years ago, I knew it was a place I needed to visit, as it combines two things I love: skiing, and Japan. When I was finally ready to book the trip, it was tough to find the right place to stay; I wanted the convenience of staying in town, so I could walk to restaurants and bars, but I didnt want to be too far from the mountain. Luckily, I stumbled onto Kimamaya.

The website and marketing materials cannot do it justice; the location is very central, and the public areas and rooms feel cozy and comfortable. There are also two private onsens, that are restorative after a day on the slopes.

But, what really sets it apart, is the incredible service provided by Peter and Haruka. They constantly go above and beyond to ensure that your stay is amazing, from the second you inquire about room availability, to the moment that you leave. They know the town inside and out, and I need to mention Osaka-san, who is incredibly efficient shuttling guests back and forth in town.

Thank you again for an excellent stay. I cannot wait to return!
